Oh golly that's a hard one. Ask him! Try to find something that he'd really like to do with you and try to get involved. Bear in mind that some 13 yr olds rae 'embarrassed' about going out with their mums! Terrible I know but that's teenager's for you. What about a nice night in with a film of his choice and sweets and crisps and fizzy drinks. This could be a one-a-month treat as it's really not acceptable to do this all the time. Or the two of you could go away together, centre parks? Or a theme park place. You will really have to comprimise though because mum and teen are often not on the same level! Try do something that you've both never done before, ice-skating is a good suggestion, skiing, roller blading, bowling, canoeing, theatre production (of his choice) and if you look up on the net there are loads of websites to give you ideas on this kind of stuff. What about museums in London too? They're not all dead boring! The history and science museums are INCREDIBLE and there's always madame tussaud's, the London Eye ets. There is SO much. You could each write down things you'd like to do together on separate bits of paper, fold them up, put them in a tin, and then each time you're bored you pick one out and go and do it! Good Luck!

My 14 yr son and I listen to music together. . . He goes on-line and finds songs that he thinks I'll like and I make him listen to the music that I listened to at his age. We laugh a lot and talk, sometimes when the mood strikes I jump up and show how we danced in Jr high, he has started to cry a few times he's laughed so hard!!
I enjoy this time alone together more than anything because we talk with out me or him yelling, no scolding, just talking. If we go to the movies then we just sit next to each other and don't talk. When the movie is over all we talk about is the movie.
Just an idea. Have fun with your teen. I'm having a great time.

I, too, have a 13 year old. For the longest time, when he was younger, I had no problems finding things to do with him. Now that he is what he calls "a pre-teen", LOL he seemed uninterested in anything I wanted to do with him. So....I started asking him what "he" wanted to do. I gave him the option of giving me suggestions, such as, going to the park, watching a movie he would enjoy, going to look at the game store, etc,. By letting him decide on what we should do together, made it possible for us to spend time together, but also allow him to feel like he had some say so as well. Hope this helps. Take care!!

Go rockclimbing, skating, bowling. Or go play tennis, racquetball, soccer, ultimate frisbee.
Or if you're not the athletic type, do something else like take him out to see a movie every...Saturday. Or something like that. Or maybe you both can take up an instrument like Guitar, piano, or drums. That way you can learn together, have lessons, that sort of thing. =]

Why dont you ask him what he wants to do?
I would say do something simple but fun, like bowling. Maybe let him show you what he likes to do, and show you places he likes to go. That might help you bond better. Let him plan the day, and you go along with it. Doing that will make your son feel more in control, and he will respect you a lot more!
Have fun and good luck!

Play miniature golf, go fishing or canoeing. For indoors there's the movies, board games or cooking a meal together. Check for special events, ethnic happenings, museum exhibits, plays, band concerts, etc. in your area.

Right now a lot of 13 yr olds don't really want to do anything with their moms. But there are somethings that you can do with him without making him "embarrased" You could play video games or something.

Anything sporty like bowling or go karting (if he likes those sorts of things) if he's not into those why not visit a museum together?
