I think that these kids are cheating, pure and simple, and cheats never prosper. I`m not going to help them!

Cyclone, I do! I didn't say they annoyed me or whatever, I was simply wondering if other people thought the same as me!!

Sorry, I didnt make it clear, I mean the questions where the asker has directly entered the question as set by the teacher. As an example, the recent questions about Romeo and Juliet, which can all be found from the play itself, how is the asker learning anything by not thinking about it himself?

I can't see anything wrong with the kids who are asking HOW to do their homework - like how to use a method and so on. A lot of them may not have anyone at home to help, they need to find out from somewhere, how else will they learn? I am a teacher and we encourage the children to use the internet as a resource.
I agree with you that the ones who are just asking for the answers are cheating though.

Are you honestly saying that you never once asked anyone for help with homework assignments outside of the classroom?
I think this can be a very effective and useful tool for students provided it's used correctly. I bypass all questions asking for essays or that give an entire list of questions and demand answers. But where I see someone struggling, and I can provide some help then I will, because not everyone has approachable teachers (I have teachers in my immediate family and believe me they're not all accessible and neither do some of them want to be), parents are not always available and even those that are can not always help with the work assigned.
I would rather they ask questions here and find some support than not bother to make any attempt at all. And since the name of the category is clearly Homework Help, there's no need for any one to be answering questions in here that has a problem with it.

When I asked ,on this site, teachers to comment on the numbers of their pupils seeking help with their homework, the best answer I received was:
"As a teacher i am required to set homework, i do record who completes the tasks each week, but quite frankly i dont care if they are doing it themselves, getting help to do it or not doing it at all! i have told them they have the responsibility to decide if they do their homework, i explain the reasoning behind setting homework (creates good study habits, revision of work, skills practice etc), but really it is up to the student and their families to decide if it gets completed"
If the teaching profession do not care why should we? Only the kids suffer by cheating and not learning.

No it isn't cheating. It's no different than going to parents and asking them - by using Answers the kids are just accessing a wider pool of knowledge or being shown where the information can be gleaned from. At the end of the day they still have to interpret the information and decide what is relevant and correct. Knowledge can only be passed on by someone asking the question in the first place.

I occasionally have asked questions to help me with biology homework etc. I try very hard at school, and usually do well. Sometimes I need help understanding things, especially if I had been off ill when the topic had been explained, and sometimes the questions are just really confusing.
I would hate to thing that someone would be begrudged an answer because its homework, because at least they are doing the homework. We are told in school that it isn't a test, and the point of it is for us to look up the answers in past jotters, general knowledge, on the internet and from parents.
If someone had just copied the whole of their homework onto Yahoo Answers then I wouldn't answer as I would have thought this was just laziness. But if it was just the odd question that someone was stuck on, then I would gladly help. Sometimes its useful to have things explained in different ways by different people.
It isn't very helpful to just say "Do it yourself".

but sometimes the stuff teachers tell you to learn is not in the book and the internet uses way too mant big words to be understood. then what do they do or if (like me) they have a teribble math book and teacger, but their math is to advanced for their parents to help them. where do they go? I agree that some kids may be cheating, but I have also been in their shoes and know that sometimes you just realyy need help from someone who actually understands.

yeahhhhhh. i have mixed thoughts about this. maybe some of the students have been studying for hours and get tired and need an easy out to finish up a few problems. if they don't know the answer, or even how to get started, i imagine that giving them a "piece" of the answer is ok, because they will probably discuss the answer in their class, and it's better (to me) that they have something to go with than nothing. that is, suppose they go to class with nothing...they're more likely to not pay attention than if they have something to start with. (maybe i'm too optimistic about the integrity of the average student)

I think this is one of the most easiest and best way of finding answers as there are many opinions from many people. There can be experts or rather conflicts between some questions so it is very important to help in answering the questions. Or do the homework with fun and effectively.

Yes, if the ask the question direct for a simple answer without an understanding of how the answer is obtained then I would agree it is cheating. I wouldn't mind if they asked how to work out the solution to the problem/question they are trying to solve.
Curmudgeon does have a point, however!

Oh get a life! schools tell kids to get research from the internet and getting answers off here is classed as research. Just because someone tells them the answer doesnt mean they don't learn!! They probably find it easier to remember How do you think people get answers to there questions.........or do you never answer anything. Really there are more things to worry about!!
