- What should be done to ensure that such questions are posted under the appropriate category, - Homework? We may unwittingly, weaken the students efforts and defeat the teaching and research profession by giving answers to assigned homework readings!!
Just a thought. . . .

Just don't answer questions that look like homework. Point askers in the right direction, but don't answer the question.

There is nothing you can do if someone unethically answers something that is obviously a homework question. Hopefully, at least they will post the correct answer.

Also, I have looked at the homework help section, and it is not divided by subject. I am confident to anser English questions, but not higher level math or science. I don't look there because it takes too long to sort through to the questions I could help with.

When I see them (and they're easy to spot) I try to answer in a way that will encourage the questioner to do their own homework. I point out that the question is asked to get them to think for themselves; that nobody can do that except themselves; and that the skill will help them throughout life, regardless of the marks they get from the present exercise. I also point out we learn by failing. But I won't do their research for them, or provide a "crib".
