I know alot about health care b/c have been in nursing for 21 years,BUT I worked mostly with sub-acute patients and the elderly. My 12 year old daughter is having her 2nd period and it is vey very heavy. She went through 6 pair of under wear and pants in 6 hours.I bought her some womens overnight pads and she bled so heavy they were literally saturated. She bled clear down her legs.I helped her clean up but she is so embarrased and feels lousy. My 18 year old never bled this heavy. Is it normal to bleed so much on her second period? Her 1st one was in November 2006,and this is her second one.Any information would be helpful.I have been washing clothes all weekend.

Even though I am a nurse,it is not beyond me to ask for help, esp with my kids.

It doesn't sound normal to bleed that heavily, however she skipped for a long while, as did I before I was put on birth control to stop the heaviness and regulate it. It's okay to get her into the gyno. even at age 12 and they can deff. work things out, for now though, have her change her pad consistently! even if it's every half hour! otherwise ALL clothes will be ruined.

I've been in a similiar situation, and I know how embarassing this is for her, especially because the only person I could rely on was my Mom, and at the time I got it, age 11, I didn't get along with her, she had a loud mouth, and very judgmental, having horrible father and brothers didn't help either! But most girls will feel bad for their first few periods, maybe even up to a year, but it gets easier...just comfort her throughout it all, and do things to keep her mind off it, make her feel comfortable.

A gyno. will deff. help you! If you get a good one, you can request not to get a exam however, just to talk about certain options! I take Loestrin 24 birth control and I am not sexually active, I know she is young, but it works, I get my period for 3 days instead of 8 now, and it's not heavy anymore, it's so light I wear pantyliners.

Goodluck! :)

When I was in 3rd and 4th grade, this mom said bad stuff about me. I was also pretty popular and everyone liked me. I think they all knew me because i tutored people and i was in student council and safety patrol and helped kindergarteners and stuff lke that. (Not to brag, just showing how similar the situation is.) We lived in a small community and she told all of the other moms i carried a pregnancy test in my backpack and that i kissed a boy. None of that was true. I never kissed a boy and i hadnt started yet. After school, the YMCA would come and watch kids at the school. The girl went there and when the mom was picking her up one day, she came over and said all of this rude stuff to me and my friend (who was also the girls friend.) All because of what she said, some of my friends couldnt play with me anymore. Eventually, she moved near one of the moms who soon figured they were bad people and told the other moms. Now, they dont even go to our school anymore because they would leave in the middle of paying rent. The girl acted and dressed like a hooker. Everyone knows she will do anything with a guy. Her mom will do NYTHING to make her popular. They dont have much money, but she bought $200 worth of clothes and was broke for 5 months. At the beginning of middle school, they would have big parties at her apartments every Friday and sometimes cops would come because we were being too loud and the mom didnt care. She let boys spend the night. (because no one else could because most of us were higher class so parents didnt approve.) I think the girl had sone problems because her dad raped her sister at 16. (I know this is unrelative i just had to get this out and I'm sorry it is on your question!) So, you should tell her AGAIN that what she is doing isnt right and try to prove it to other people. Show people that the daughter isnt doing anything wrong! Tell them your daughter doesnt do anything. Tell them you always make sure she is watched on dates. I hope i helped you!!! Good luck. I'm sorry for you and your daughter!

I am not a nurse but I remember my mother (a nurse) making me promise to tell her if I bled too much when I first started my periods because of the likelhyhood of haemorrhage(sp?).

I would take your daughter to the hospital before she loses too much more blood.

I would certainly make an appointment with her doctor, who will probably refer to an OB/GYN. Maybe putting her on the pill will slow it down and shorten it. It doesn't sound normal at all for it to be so heavy, especially because she is so young. A friend of mine while growing up used to get heavy periods like that twice a month! She went on the pill and it was much better for her. (as a side note, she had endometriosis)
Best of luck to you

Everyone's is different, but that sounds a little excessive. There could be a simple problem or none at all, but it might be best to take her to a gyno for peace of mind for both of u.

I think you know the answer. it sounds bad enough to go to the doctor ASAP You must get a professional opinion on this.If it has slowed and she is feeling ok you may decide to wait til monday but if any doubt, go to urgent care/ER.At the very least call your doctor -her doctor and ask what to do.You dont want her to need a blood transfusion do you?

take her to the ER that is way to much blood they say a woman is supposed to only loose about 3 tablespoons and she could become anemic, or go into shock.

Periods are usually heavy when one starts having them . You need not worry. Give her iron and multivitamins.
