False Rape Accusations May Be More Common Than Thought ?? Or is the article unreliable and biased??

They stated, "Every year since 1989, in about 25 percent of the sexual assault cases referred to the FBI where results could be obtained, the primary suspect has been excluded by forensic DNA testing. Specifically, FBI officials report that out of roughly 10,000 sexual assault cases since 1989, about 2,000 tests have been inconclusive, about 2,000 tests have excluded the primary suspect, and about 6,000 have "matched" or included the primary suspect."

If the foregoing results can be extrapolated, then the rate of false reports is roughly between 20 (if DNA excludes an accused) to 40 percent (if inconclusive DNA is added). The relatively low estimate of 25 to 26 percent is probably accurate, especially since it is supported by other sources.

1SmartBitch: Hmm... all right based on your theories, the REAL victim may possibly have misidentified a suspect. in cases where the suspect is a stranger. However, as you can see from this source,
http://www.rainn.org/statistics/index.html
rapes are statistically perpetrated more by people who are actually RELATED to the victim(73%), thus the victim shouldnt have any problems identifying the aggressor. Also, DNA is probably one of the most accurate measures to determine actual rapes -so lets say i assign it a success rate of 95%.
Hence, taking into account that they possibly misidentified ALL the strangers and unknown people, the number of false rapes still stand at
26% * 73% * 95%(DNA success)= 18% of all reported rapes.
Of course, one must also take account the rapes that were unreported, but a MINIMUM of 18% of reported false rapes are still a worrying number. Also, false charges that are dropped are not actually included yet, so the number of false rapes could be higher.

Diedre O: Were the statistics you provided (2 to 8 percent ), based on a legitimate survey or study ?? Is it scientifically proven ??
(P.S. Can you provide the link ;-) ?)
After all, the Government of Canada Status on Women sites would hardly be reliable, seeing that Women Rights sites are more likely to have an agenda then a neutral source, as it is more likely to be biased towards women.
"The figure are very high for rapes going UNREPORTED" "Many women are scared and ashamed to come forth for fear of reprisals not only from the perpetrator but also from society"
Yes i agree with this statement and in all likelihood it is possibly true, however, do you have any evidences or statistics to prove this ?? What should the government do to rectify this problem??
Most of the rest of your response sound like your own opinions, even if they seem likely to be genuine. Maybe you could show me certain examples that prove the rape victims are victimized??

Another question for all: Do you think that lie detector tests should be incorporated for both the suspect and the victim ?? Would it be a good solution ??

You posted questionable news sources and these feminists will jump on any false move you make. Tread carefully.

That said the FBI statistic is very true and when DNA came out about 30 percent of those convicted were exonerated. False accusations are a horrible problem and utterly destroy the life of a wrongly accused man. They are guilty unless they can prove themselves innocent. A false accuser should face a mandatory sentence of what the falsely accused would have faced. That is of course if can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that it was false and malicious.

Ummmm I would go for unreliable and biased... Did you even read the article(s) Sounds like no one has any idea how often instances of false rape occur and you did read the part of the article that said that cases where a rape DID occur but a possible misidentifying happened were included in that study or article or whatever it was, which did mean that the victim was presented with a suspect probably in a lineup and she picked the wrong guy... During a rape I would imagine the woman was scared half to death and hurting and may not be able to pick out her attacker because she did not get a good look at him or she closed her eyes - this is where it is important for law enforcement to do their job correctly.

I am not saying that women do not accuse men falsely of rape but I personally do not think that the rate is shockingly high, most rape cases are not reported by women or are dropped because the woman has to be above reproach because her past will be brought up in court, her attire, what she had to drink when it happened and other factors - do you know how many cases of real rape that go unreported?

The cases where they do PROVE false accusation (on purpose) the woman should be punished to the full extent of the law... but how many cases of those 25 to 26% do you think may have simply misidentified a suspect but a REAL rape did occur. The study (article) theory, whatever it is is seriously flawed...

If you look up these statistics in The Department of Justice, FBI website, or in Canada look at their Government of Canada Status on Women sites. The statistics place this much lower between 2 to 8 percent which makes it comparable to other crimes. However, the figure are very high for rapes going UNREPORTED! Many women are scared and ashamed to come forth for fear of reprisals not only from the perpetrator but also from society. Rape victims are treated like evidence. They are not represented in court and the idea that theCA or DA is looking after their interests is completely false. The are revictimized by the system again and again. With globablization many cultures are now immigrating to North America who would never admit to being raped because of the shame it would cause to these females and the fact they would be ostracized by the very group they look to as a support system.

I don't think that Foxnews is really reliable, given that they are knowm to lie on a regular basis. I don't know the other one.

That being said, I'm sure false accusations happen quite often, and I think what those girls do is despicable. To lie about something so important is contemptible. It's horrible for the person who is wrongly accused, and it also doesn't help women who have been raped.

Women have been making false accusations (not just rape) for centuries. It is only in the era of mass communications that it can be scrutinized.

It is in a woman's interest to make false accusation. She sheds a tear, and does a two minutes Oscar winning performance of false allegations and:
- she rids herself of a male she dislikes
- she often receives financial compensation
- she receives victim status from other women.

Today there are 1000s of men in jail based on false allegations.

False accusations happen and every singel one of them is a punch in the face for rape victims.
Chuckwal thats what Id like to see too, although I wouldnt give penalities exceeding 2 years for false accusations. 2 years of beeing raped and beaten in prison should discourage anyone from making false accusations.

It's probably an inaccurate ID rather than an innacurate report. Women ARE raped, but maybe during this traumatic time, they forget to ask to see the guys driver's license.

While I don't consider Faux News (or Communist News Network) reliable, I believe it.

Contrary to what some may believe, women are capable of lying and being vindictive.

A long time ago I used to listen to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (remember those guys?). One of the songs I heard was "Girls Ain't Nothing but Trouble." While it was humorous to listen to, I could also see it as a way of warning guys what some girls are like.
