False Rape Accusations May Be More Common Than Thought ?? Or is the article unreliable and biased??

They stated, "Every year since 1989, in about 25 percent of the sexual assault cases referred to the FBI where results could be obtained, the primary suspect has been excluded by forensic DNA testing. Specifically, FBI officials report that out of roughly 10,000 sexual assault cases since 1989, about 2,000 tests have been inconclusive, about 2,000 tests have excluded the primary suspect, and about 6,000 have "matched" or included the primary suspect."
If the foregoing results can be extrapolated, then the rate of false reports is roughly between 20 (if DNA excludes an accused) to 40 percent (if inconclusive DNA is added). The relatively low estimate of 25 to 26 percent is probably accurate, especially since it is supported by other sources.

1SmartBitch: Hmm... all right based on your theories, the REAL victim may possibly have misidentified a suspect. in cases where the suspect is a stranger. However, as you can see from this source,
http://www.rainn.org/statistics/index.html
rapes are statistically perpetrated more by people who are actually RELATED to the victim(73%), thus the victim shouldnt have any problems identifying the aggressor. Also, DNA is probably one of the most accurate measures to determine actual rapes -so lets say i assign it a success rate of 95%.
Hence, taking into account that they possibly misidentified ALL the strangers and unknown people, the number of false rapes still stand at
26% * 73% * 95%(DNA success)= 18% of all reported rapes.
Of course, one must also take account the rapes that were unreported, but a MINIMUM of 18% of reported false rapes are still a worrying number. Also, false charges that are dropped are not actually included yet, so the number of false rapes could be higher.

Diedre O: Were the statistics you provided (2 to 8 percent ), based on a legitimate survey or study ?? Is it scientifically proven ??
(P.S. Can you provide the link ;-) ?)
After all, the Government of Canada Status on Women sites would hardly be reliable, seeing that Women Rights sites are more likely to have an agenda then a neutral source, as it is more likely to be biased towards women.
"The figure are very high for rapes going UNREPORTED" "Many women are scared and ashamed to come forth for fear of reprisals not only from the perpetrator but also from society"
Yes i agree with this statement and in all likelihood it is possibly true, however, do you have any evidences or statistics to prove this ?? What should the government do to rectify this problem??
Most of the rest of your response sound like your own opinions, even if they seem likely to be genuine. Maybe you could show me certain examples that prove the rape victims are victimized??

Another question for all: Do you think that lie detector tests should be incorporated for both the suspect and the victim ?? Would it be a good solution ??
