if you see the interviewer before you get interviewed. and you get intimidated by his/her looks. also, if your not prepared, you'll get nervous for sure. be prepared, research on the company you are applying for and know the details of the job description of the job you are appying for.

If the interviewer is someone like Mr. Dursley or 'another-world'-ly, large, unfriendly. It seems terribly stupid when you give an answer and that goes right above the interviewer's head because he is not up-to-date with the latest news or new concepts. Sometimes the interviewer may himself be incompetitive. Otherwise I am ready to take him on, you know.
