the police security bureau may deport you, but the school where you worked will be sanctioned at the same time for hiring foreigners without legitimate papers, it's a big deal for them. also, i believe that they're not dumb enough to do it, i worked in shanghai for a year and i never heard cases wherein teachers are deported because of breach of contract, besides, you know chinese they're very good at breaching contract themselves. good luck

If you aren't working in China on legal working visa status, then you have no employee rights and therefore any contract, written or oral is non binding.. In order for contract to be legal, they need to be written in both Chinese and in the other parties native language, both parties hold original signatures. Schools have other ways of making your life miserable if you bolt from your contract without satisfying the breach clause.. They can use their relationships to make your life very uncomfortable.. If the school breaches, then you have almost no recourse against them, though what #1 says is true, the school can be fined, though in practice all is required is a nice dinner with the right people to have that fine reduced to the cost of dinner..

By the way, if you are working in China without the proper visa, you may be fined as well by the PBS..

Good luck..

I have worked in china without a work visa. It's not a big deal, in china you can even exchange your money at higher rates using the black market, they have there own office in the banks and do it infront of the police. Everyone gets paid off. If the school ever ran into any type of problem they would most likely just get paid off and that would be the end of it. America is about the only county that arrests and upholds the law to point it just ridiculous, of course I guess thats why we have more people in jail then any other country in the world
