Normally they'll just burn out but it can happen... I remember when I was a kid a lightbulb on the ceiling exploded, glass was all over the place! However it is rare because (knock on wood) that's the only incident I recall and I'm 38 :)

Yes, as a child I was in the shower dancing away and flicked some water on the bulb. It exploded, it was quite funny and I felt daft too.
It has never happened again but then I never danced in the shower again after that.

Yes! My Dad was changing one yesterday without turning the light off and it exploded in his hand! Blood everywhere!

Actually they implode, if you get water or any kind of moisture on them then, the rapid cooling of the glass causes it to crack and due to the vacuum inside the bulb they will implode. Also low quality ones with imperpections in the glass will do the same thing.

I imagine they shouldn't but this has happened to me before. I used a shop-brand light bulb and it exploded above my head. I was saved by the fact that i had un uplighter style shade.

They can. I had one explode on me once. I was using hairspray and some hit the bulb. Glass went everywhere.
