Its an automatic 'M' reg RT.

When I put it into drive it will go forwards but over revs and barely moves. If I put it in reverse its fine.

Could it be that the gearbox is knackered or that it is something else I know the simple things but this is way beyond me.

How much would a new gearbox cost anyway?

PLEASE HELP!

Have you checked if it has got any ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) in the box? This is the same stuff you use in the PAS system. Lovely dark red stuff.

Happened to me a while ago with a Ford Granada 2.9i auto. It wouldn't move - we refilled the box and away she went. Not very far, mind, becase it had a leak!

If you need a new box, try a breakers yard (scrapyard) - it might only cost you £50. Then you'll have to find someone to fit it. I'd say £50 for an afternoon's work is fair.

I was reliably informed that you NEVER ,ever, buy anything automatic unless its German or Japanese.
I love auto's and always buy them. I have found the advice given to me years ago from a mechanic of many years standing has proven correct. Although the German or Japanese auto's will occasionally let you down, this far better than all the other makes letting you down all the time.

Sorry to hear about your problem but, I would advise that you cut your losses and go and buy a Honda Civic auto.

Automatics can be b****rs. Clutch plates, gearbox, could be expensive. Is it still under warranty. If it is take it back to the dealer you bought it from or as it physically won't go there ring them. You need a mechanic.
Good luck mate.

Probably the forward band's worn. Could be relatively easily rectified, go to an automatic transmission specialist, try Yellow pages.

Sounds like the front band needs tightening. Treat yourself to a Haynes Manual
