We have all experienced this before. A certain smell, taste, sight, or combination of all these suddenly trigger a memory. Depending on how vivid or groomed our imaginations are, we can transport virtually to a specific time and place. We can actually return to the time which was triggered by the memory.

This happens to me, and I find it refreshing. I can hear a certain song and remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard it. I am 49, and I find it pretty cool to go back in time and reminisce. Smells also do this to me. After my mother died, I got her cedar chest. I opened it and found a scarf that she had worn, and it still had her smell on it. What a great memory that was.

Well that's kinda cool. ;)

Tho I don't think it can be called a time machine, and we're not exactly 'transported' anywhere, virtually or otherwise. A better term to use would be deja vu, or just recalling something.

But this is just my two cents. To each his own. :)

A time machine would allow you to be to physically move from time to time.
