Twice that, or 20% is £9 X 2 = £18

A percentage is a part of a hundred.So 20% is 20 parts of a hundred which is a fifth.so 20% of £90 is the same as a fifth of £90. A simple sum now is 90 divided by 5 which is 18.

The term Percentage (%) is a way of comparing portions of different totals
Per cent is translated from per hundredth
So if required to find N% of a total X
To calculate
Written in full becomes: [ X divided by 100 ] multiplied by N
So in your example 20% of £90
Becomes [90 divided by 100] multiplied by 20
Simplification
{90 x 20} / 100
Divide through leaves 9 x 2 = 18
Therefore 20% of £90 = £18
See if the following helps:
The use of percentages often makes it easier to compare fractions that do not have a common denominator (a number divisible by both the bottom numbers), for instance when comparing rates of inflation or rates of simple interest.
To convert a fraction to a percentage on a calculator, divide the numerator (the 'top') by the denominator (the 'bottom') and then multiply by 100.
The percentage will correspond to the first two figures of the decimal; for example, 7/12 = 0.5833333 = 58.3% (correct to 1 decimal place), and 7/32 = 0.21875 = 21.9% (correct to 1 decimal place).
The percentage sign is thought to have been derived as an economy measure when recording in old counting houses; writing in the numeric symbol for 25/100 would take two lines of parchment, and hence the ‘100’ denominator was put alongside the 25 and rearranged to ‘%’.

The most direct way to do this is probably to put a decimal point before the percentage you are trying to find, then multiply the main figure by that amount, eg;
20% becomes .20 so 90 X .20 = 18, or 17.5% becomes .175 so 90 X .175 = 15.75.
This method works for me, I hope it helps.

20% is just 2 10%'s put together.
to find 10% of a number simply divide it by 10.
£90 / 10 = £9
20% = £9 * 2 = £18
another quick way to find 20% is to divide the number by 5
£90 / 5 = £18.
