I do it all the time - you are obviously going to have problems with signal coverage as no network has full national coverage. I get 230.4k which is roughly 4 times dialup so dont expect big downloads or video.
its prefectly satisfactory for general browsing , email, messengers etc.

I got an internet tools disk with my phone which comes up on the laptop and shows various info and options. If you didnt - try Samsungs website for drivers etc

This depends on where you live and what mob phone company you are with. I have an Orange pay as you go phone and i have a card which slots into the side of my laptop. I use Orange 3g service and i phone 450 and buy unlimited browsing via the phone for £1 this gives me 12 hours browsing. I then put the sim card into my card and slide it in the laptop. I then connect as normal, i have been using this for 18 months and never had a problem. PS i have set my pc to use *99# as the dial up number in internet connection options

One thing to mention is that most mobile phone companies don't allow you to use your inclusive minutes to make data calls. I would just check, otherwise it will be expensive.
