I think there needs to be an investigation into the matter. There may be a medical problem with the child that makes him gain so much in such a few amount of years. If the child is medically cleared then the parents need to be held accountable. Take the child away and teach the parents about proper parenting and nutrition. Then give them another chance, closely monitored of course.

I don't think he should be taken away - that opens a whole new risk of child abuse and confusion for the child etc etc.
I do, however think the child should be made a "Court of Law" and, as such, must have to remain under the care of a Hospital (and possibly remain IN the hospital) until he learns how to eat healthily, have all temptation removed, loses weight and can be professionally cared for.

Child neglect yes.
My opinion is that the child NEEDS to be removed & cared for (placed in a 'hospital' of sorts) so as to have the opportunity to get healthy & be monitored while at the same time, the parents should be educated & monitored.
Its a sad thing to see, even sader when the parent/s try to justify the weight.

Social services certainly needs to be involved, but take the child away??? So we are willing to trade off the physical problems for a life-time of emotional scars from being separated from his family that in all other regards is apparently a loving home...that's just insane.

No child should be taken away from his home unless there is severe abuse or gross neglect. The child and parents should be placed under supervision until his weight and their overall diet is corrected
