There is a chemical rection take place, but i don't know what the reaction is...The reaction reverses when the hand warmer is heaten up, but i don't know why the chemical compound can go back to the coin again.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "the coin," but I think you are asking about the specific type of hand warmer that contains a metallic trigger inside the packet. Such a packet contains a supersaturated solution of a salt. That is to say, the solution contains more of the salt than could have been dissolved into it at room temperature. This means that the system is prone to spontaneous crystallization. Disturbing the metallic trigger provides nucleation points and the crystallization occurs. Heat is generated because the crystallization of the given salt is exothermic. (Some salts have an endothermic crystallization, which would instead produce a cooling sensation.) The warmer can be reused if it is boiled and then cooled. Boiling provides the heat that is needed for the solute to again become fully dissolved, and the gradual cooling results in the supersaturated state that is required to later produce heat.

They so need to go into at least simmering water for a good 10 minutes.. I use a mesh in the pan, so the gel pack doesn't touch the base. DO NOT MICROWAVE.

This is based on the principle of thermo setting gels , when we want to use ut it can be activated as per the directions shown :
-----------------------------------------------------

TO ACTIVATE INSTANT HEAT
- Locate the small metal disc
- Bend the disc with your fingers until it clicks
- Wait a few seconds for the heat (up to 54 degrees C) to spread through the Hot Gel
- Squeeze and knead the Hot Gel for optimum performance
- To retain warmth for longest time, keep the hot gel inside a glove or pocket

When it is to be activared follow :
TO RECHARGE
- Prepare a saucepan of water
- Wrap the crystallized Hot Gel in a cloth (to void contact with the heated surface of the pan)
- Boil the Hot Gel for 15 minutes (approx.) until it returns to a liquified state
- Allow the Hot Gel to cool and it is ready for re-activation
- With proper care as instructed Hot Gel may be recharged more than 100 times.
- DO NOT put the Hot Gel in a microwave oven

They should be boiled ( a full rolling boil ) in a pan on the stove for 20 minutes. They don't last forever, so if they are old, and have been used many times, it may be time to replace them. Try the "20 Boil" first and see how it goes.
