Its fairly simple read a few reviews and then buy the best one you can afford. Stick to names you recognise to be safe.

I assume you have broadband Internet at home already. How do you connect your husband's PC?Usb router? Go to tesco they have routers for £40 cheaper than PC world or other stores. If your husband's PC doesn't have a wireless card then connect it with a cable to the router.Your laptop should have wireless built in ,if it doesn't then you'll have yo buy a usb or a wireless card which you can also get from tesco. If you need a wireless card and a router then try netgear or belkin routers because they offer a wireless usb or card when buying a router.

I would go for a Netgear DG384 router, should be around 50 pounds if you check online. It has one of the best signal penetration of the routers available, which will be important if your laptop will be quite far away from the router.

Anything with 802.11b/g (g is faster) and WAP or WAP2 security should be good, Linksys, Netgear, D-Link. Need good security if you are going to have a server and have files available and on all the time. If you get one with external antenna you can customize the antenna for better range etc.

i would buy the sweex 54mbps wireless router.it cost between 20 to 30 pounds and is a doddle to set up.i got one last week on the advice of a computer engineer and i am very pleased with it.my last router was a belkin and it was anightmare to instal.the sweex does not need to use your operating system hence its ease of use and you can also use it with vista or any other o/s as a result.hope this helps.

Definately go with me and Chozo, answer above. I have a Netgear DG834G. I bought it as it was the highest rating in the customer reviews on www.reviewcenter.com

I got mine brand new off ebay for £35, bargain.

Cheapest place I seen since is www.ebuyer.co.uk

Had mine for about a year now and its great.

Go for signal penetration. It is the single MOST important issue I have heard mentioned.
