I am looking at the strengths and weaknesses of using photographs in qualitative research.

However in all the book and weblinks there seems to be very little on the strengths----the focus is on the negative of representation.

Can anyone suggest some advantages of using photos in qualitative research?

Thanks

A picture is worth a thousand words, but it also can have someone draw a conclusion that you are not intending.

No two people see the exact same thing in a picture, so it opens up the unknown.

it depends on the kind research you are doing.usually expressing what is happening is difficult in qualitative research if photographs are not used.as you know its hard to convience people without them visualising what it is they are reading about.

If you are doing ethnographic research, for example, pictures can say a lot. It helps others to visualize what you are talking about a lot better.
