I need to buy a laptop but only for emails and ipod. I'll just get a cheaper one but they all seem to have Windows Vista and I've been told XP is much better. Are there any with XP? Is Vista as bad as people say? Which is the best cheaper laptop?

i have just got a new laptop with vista, the problem is that suppliers are under contract to supply vista now is is released. you may find an independent PC shop that maybe can get hold of a laptop with xp but it will take some doing.
I'm getting along with vista OK and not had any problems as of yet. have a look in Staples, they have some great laptops for around £600. i opted for the HP pavilion dv6000 and its great. built in cam and plenty of memory...loads of great features. it also looks great...

p.s keep away from pc world their after sales is really bad and their repair centre has been voted the worst of all!!!

good luck, i hope this helps...

Go around the high street shops in particular PCworld as they still may have computers with windows explorer in it.

The problem with VISTA is more with old computers as you need to various upgrades before is up and running, a computer bough with vista already should not have problems, however it may be good to check that your Ipod has drivers and is compatible with vista

You can probably get a cheap re-furbished laptop from one of the shops on Tottenham Ct Rd in London such as Procom. Refurbs are pretty well guaranteed to have XP for the foreseeable future.

i say that using windows vista is not a good idea bcoz it uses a lot of ram and also harddisk space.
instead of buying ask the delaer to give you a laptop or assemble one which has XP in it. ask the delaer whoever he is to give you one with only for the requirements for you.

Just don't think about it anymore and go buy a new macbook. It will change your life and the way you look a computers. Mac's are wonderful.

The macbook will cost you about $1,000.00 and it is worth far more. There are no compatibility problems any more. I have owned one for over two years now and I love mine.
