I read in Prevention magazine once that if you are low on zinc that this can happen too. You could try taking a vitamin with zinc in it or a zinc supplement pill .Here is a link on zinc deficiency problems.

On the other hand, colds are a common reason for loss of smell and this article links loss of smell to use of zicam cold remedy, which has zinc gluconate in it (they theorize that it reacts with the olfactory nerves in the nose of some people).(This would be different from a pill, which works systemically.)

Here is a link that says nasal polyps can cause it (you would need to see an ear nose and throat doctor to check this out).

Here is a link that states it is called "Atrophic Rhinitis" and here is a list of 42 disease causes for it.

Sinus problems and allergies are the leading causes. Vitamin deficiency is up there. If your sick be patient or consult and doctor. A general purpose vitamin never hurt anybody and if all else fails you could have just been over doing on the spicing. Salt particularly tends to deaden the taste buds. Try no salt for at least two weeks to give yourself a chance to recover. Food will taste very plain for a while. If that work then keep the salt to minimum. There another besides salt but I don't remember what it was or where I read it.

Actually, this is a blessing in disguise. Now you can eat the cheapest, lousy food and it won't matter since you can't taste it. For instance, now you can dine at fine restaurants like White Castle hamburger shack. There "gut bombs" are only 25 cents. So a guy can get pretty full for a buck or so. Food won't cost you much, so you can save a bundle. I think in all fairness, since I gave you this fabulous advice, you make want to consider sending me at least $20. Thank-you

Do you have a sinus infection? I have gone through a similiar situation when I had a sinus infection. I had to go to a Doctor and get some anti-biotics and something to drain my sinuses. After a few days, my taste and smell returned! I hope this helped.

If you have been, or are sick such as a bad cold then that explanes it. Once you get better your tastes buds will come back.

Loss of the sense is one of the symptoms of sinus infection as several others. You need to see your doctor to clear this up.

consider undiagnosed food allergies. See an allergist for testing. If you drink alot of alcohol, that can be a cause for that condition
