check the size of the files/photos that u wanna copy, then use
.If you have thousands, use a DVD-R, but it would be much cheaper just to use a cd-r.Safe enough to go with CD-R
DVD-R >4.5GB
CD-R >700MB

Provided your computer has a dvd re-writer that is better as it holds much more information than a cd.

how many have you to copy cd holds 700mb dvd holds 4.7gb
quality will be the same

DVD-R ----- > for very, very much photos (let's say nearly 4.5GB)
CD-R ------- > for many photos (around 700MB)
