Not for me. The SU is a combat aircraft. Used for bombing women and children. I like the Airbus A 380. Nice FRIENDLY aircraft.

It's certainly an interesting aircraft but not the best. The best has to be able to do everything currently envisaged so, hopefully, bring on the Eurofighter (Typhoon II).
As for the Russians and jet engines, the story about stealthily walking around Rolls Royce's factory seems a bit far-fetched, especially when RR sold the Russians their Nene jet engine (powering, at he time, the Vampire). This was then used in the Mig-15 until the Russians understood jet engine technology better. However, they were also using their own technicians as well and created an engine which was used in their first rocket-powered aircraft the Berezniak-Isayev BI in May 1942. Of course, after the war, many German technicians were removed to Russia and so began not only the high speed development of jet-powered aircraft but also the race to launch a space rocket.

it can fire missiles from its as's (behind itself) on paper it seems the best but for me the MiG 35 which is still only a show model and a lot of American pilots take their holidays in former eastern bloc countries to fly a MiG 31 at the cost of 10,000 dollars I'd say the MiG family surpass any other aircraft. interesting story about the MiG. the Russians wanted to find out about jet engines so they used engineers in the guise of embassy officials to go to rolls Royce's jet engine factory and study the manufacturing process. so in the mill shop the Russian engineers all had soft sole shoes as they couldn't have any schematics or take photographs they talked in depth to the lathe men all the while scooping up as much swarf as they could on their soles then taking the material back to Russia for scrutiny by the metallurgists.

edit:michael w, i seen it on discovery the russians just after the second world war stole swarf from RR. i'm no expert but if the fella who took part in swiping said swarf admits it, i'm not going to call him a liar, anyway i havent the intelligence to make the story up.

The thing about the Russians.... they can be really innovative. You just have to look at the lines of many of their aeroplanes to see that they do it themselves.. without any Western (USA) copying... and more often than not produce planes which look amazing.

Do you know it was the Russians who invented stealth technology ? All the science and calculations for it were done by a graduate of one of their top universitys. It was shown to his superiors/military but not given much serious consideration because it was all on paper and thought too expensive.

CIA operatives breezed in and got the papers and passed them on to the Skunkworks who took his papers more seriously.

It is a very, very tasty bit of kit indeed.
AS I understand- it has Belgian avionics, which would mean the Russians focus on their brilliant engineering and the Belgians install superb, latest generation computers.
Brilliant- I don't think too many aircraft can be quite as competent or as affordable (in terms of plenty of bang for the buck).

If only we could make our gorgeous old Harrier fuel efficient and supersonic....

This is might be base on the tech specs. The other part of the equation is the quality of the Pilot.
