You should eat 5-6 small meals a day. Fruit, vegetables, low-fat yogurt, milk and cottage cheese, fish, poultry, legumes, cereals, whole-wheat pasta and bread.
And have your breakfast within an hour after waking up.

That book is spreading misinformation.

Your body enters starvation mode after the first missed meal and will start to breakdown lean tissue instantly.

This will start to lower your resting metabolic rate. As a matter of fact people are usually in starvation mode when they wake up from a night's sleep and skipping breakfast will seriously aggravate this.

the body begins to enter starvation mode when the gastrointestinal tract is completely empty. this is usually 3-4+ hours after the last meal is consumed. catabolic hormones begin to elevate and stay elevated until their effects are blunted by insulin levels as the result of feeding.

stop focusing on numbers on the scale and start focusing on changing the body composition. the purpose of dieting for "weight" loss is to decrease body fat while preserving muscle mass. starving the body decreases muscle mass which increases the body fat percentage. what is the point of weighing less on the scale if the body fat has increased? having less body fat is healthier than decreasing the total body weight. the total bodyweight has no bearing on overall health.

NO your body needs food at regular intervals even after 8 hours, this is why they tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day . Little and often of good GI foods and fresh fruit and veg then watch as the pounds fall off.
