I'm actually in Ireland as we speak and it's great! I'm going to be here for a month and I might actually end up moving here!
The part of Ireland I'm in is Galway, on the west side. I thought that Dublin was the best place to go but turns out that many people come into Galway for the weekends to party and such. It's the party town of Ireland!
The weather here is crazy but can be beautiful too. The scenery is amazing!
If you are coming from the US expect to lose 25% of your $$$ to the exchange rate which sucks. Things are most expensive here so avoid having to purchase things you could have brought with you.
A pint (beer) is about 4.20 euros which equates to about $5.60 US dollars......however, if you like Guinness it's amazing here!
The castles and abbeys are very cool to visit and tour, too. The people are super nice and we've had no problems getting around or getting help.
The food is great but expect to see more Italian dishes than you would Irish. There are places that serve traditional Irish food but it's more for the tourists....most people here eat Italian style meals. However, they have a really big range of places to eat....so far I've seen Thai, Spanish, Chinese, Italian, and Indian. I'm sure there are more, just haven't seen them yet!
Good luck!

Don't keep your hopes up. Most people who only visit have a wrong opinion about the country. Don't forget Ireland is just another country and the people living there are just people. Don't treat them as you would animals in a zoo.
It has lovely historic places and views, that's for sure, but it's quite expensive - especially the Dublin area.
I like the place, but from the point of view of someone who lived there. But if they would offer me to live some place else rather than in Ireland I would take on that offer. I felt at home there, but I'm one to go and see the world.
Apart from that I don't mind occasionally going back for the drink, cos you can't bleeding find a proper pint of Guinness anywhere in Belgium!

I've been to northern Ireland twice! It's the most beautiful country I've been to!!! The coast line is amazing! Giant's Causeway is amazing!! The summers over there are perfect! 70 degrees and the bluest skies you'll ever see! Belfast is a busy city...when I was over there, there happened to be a bomb threat at the ship yards so we had to leave the area...but...I love the town of Lurgan (where I stayed). The people are welcoming, friendly to Americans... and the food is amazing!! I can't wait to go back over there someday!!

I think its the most awesome place that I've ever visited. I walked everywhere that I went because I didn't want to miss anything. I was in Dublin for five days this past Fall. I loved it so much that I'm going back in May. I don't think it would matter where you visited you would have a great time. Everyone I met was super friendly. Learn to eat light so you can use your money for more fun things because its crazy expensive.
