An atheist here a few moments ago posted a question trying to make the stories in the Bible look foolish.

He said that he had a friend that got turned into salt (he made it sound like it happened just the other day) He asked if you believed him. He then said what if he told you that it happened three thousand years ago outside of Sodom and Gomorrah, would you believe him then?

I think that is so disrespectful and so typical of an atheist. When you don't have God in your life, I guess you lose all manners.

The stories in the Bible are all true. I know it's hard to believe but look at it this way. The Bible takes place over a period of over a thousand years so the miracles are spread out. Miracles happen today too. I knew someone who saw a ghost and I heard about another person who got their ear ripped off in an accident and they prayed and the ear reattached itself.

Miracles do happen and all the Bible stories are true. You just need faith. Agree?

Please, no generalizations.

About respect, I have read many more answers with lack of respect from SOME religious people.

Now about miracles, once I read that they all have an explanation.
From a philosophical point of view I agree with these arguments:

Firstly, try and learn a little more about the bible. It takes place over several thousand years. And if we are talking about people being disrespectful have a look at some what the religious people say about Atheists. You ask for respect but do not give any in return.

Miracles may happen, but the bible stories are not true, they are based on myths and legends from other religions.

Read up of when the bible was written and why. It may not change your belief in God, but it may make you think about the truthfulness of the stories.

This is a perfect example of why atheists ridicule religious folk, or, better still, why they ridicule themselves.
It is a well-known fact that the bible stories are just STORIES, much like Aesop's fables. Tales invented to help the local masses of the time to live better lives. In other words less kind ... lies.
If you claim to believe everything in the bible as fact, then you are severely deluded, grossly under-educated and living in a fantasy world.
It doesn't take a lack of respect to see fools ranting to make an educated comment regarding their sanity and, for the most part, religious zealots ridicule themselves so readily with their wild claims ... an ear reattaching itself. Yeah, right!
Prayer does not achieve anything, let alone a magical re-attachment of a body part.
Face it - god is imaginary, a man-made invention to provide comfort to the weak and frightened and also to gain power over them. A long story. Perhaps later.
Do realise that this is 2007 and we haven't had a so-called miracle in ... how long is it now? That's because we are not so gullible these days. That said, I believe David Copperfield and the like get darned close! It's NOT magic - it's an illusion, as is your god.

A detached ear re-attached itself. Get a life!

Really why believe everything you hear or read. Its silly to take everything to heart, and fight to the death for just something you read about. I think its cool to be religious and all, its good for people, makes the world a better place until you get radicals who kill over stupid beliefs that they heard about. You probaly don't believe in UFOs everyone who gets abducted just wants fame, same with all these miracle stories, why believe them? I'm gonna live my life and accept the fact that I was born and I am gonna die sometime, but as of now its my time not gods or jesus' they can do what ever they want to me when my time is up.

I was never raised religious, nor do I consider myself and atheist or agnostic or whatever. I have a problem with those who try to pushreligion on others, and in the same respect, those who try to push their non faith on others/christians, etc. Everyone is entitled to believe what they choose and of course everyone thinks what they believe is right and want to get others to see it their way. Maybe it was disrespectful of the atheist, but please do not say it is "typical" of one or that "without God you lose all manners" because that is completely false! Just because someone does not believe in God does not make them a bad person, nor does believing in different Gods (because of the diversity in religious faiths)!

The story about Sodom and Gomorrah is used to attack real people in real life.

It is full of absurdities, and is fair game for attack, ridicule, and other types of criticism.

Real people deserve respect.

The bible is just another story book. You don't lack respect if you don't believe in those stories. And branding others negatively if they disagree with you smacks of intolerance and disrepect, non-virtues which your book is supposed to tell you not to have.
