When I was a waitress, I had several people tip me to what most would call excessive amounts. But since they did it repeatedly, I didn't concern myself with it. Through speaking with them, I discovered some were on the rather wealthy side, and almost all of them had been on the tip-receiving end before. For instance, I had a lady who would come in and study and drink coffee. I tried to make sure she had a relatively quiet area, and didn't put rowdy kids or screaming children around her. I always got at least $20 from her. When you go out and leave tips, do you not find yourself leaving more than the normal "expected" 15 or 20%? I know I do when I'm paying. And from my experience, that's generally the case with people who have "been there, done that".

I would think they want something but I would milk it for all it's worth.
