Dear Neal, Sure it can.. it can be the great Islam of the golden Eras. But let's be honest, Most people adopting Islam are frustrated.. In my country, which is a muslim country, you'll be lucky to have some tap water without being ill or infected.. The food contains insecticides, the air is polluted.. a higly graduate can barely find a living.. I've an archetict friend who buys a pair of shoes every year. Don't blame him when someone comes and say: "these dollars will be for your family, but'll have to die for it".. He'll die for it.
Totalitarian regimes and oppression in most of our Arabian countries leads to terrorism, this is definite.. You want to get rid of those radicals? you must eradicate their regimes first.

First of all, the Mufsideen (those who wage jihad not in accordance with the Qur'an) are not the majority of Muslims.
However, they are a great threat to Islam and can continue to gain power when ordinary Muslims are too cowed to criticise these thugs. A misplaced sense of solidarity, or a fear of independent critical thought (ijtihad) are the greatest threats to Islam in the modern world.

If the majority like it, then changing it to something else wouldn't be rescue, it would be forced conformity, or conquest.
The western world could surrender. Then the jihad would end, and they'd pay their dhimi tax and go about their business.
I lived in Palestine. When Hamas took over, government services improved. Maybe they could do the same in France.

compose the majority of muslims, i don't think so...anyway, i think its possible if all of us muslims would unite no matter where we are from, middle east, the subcontinent, America or Europe... lack of unity is the biggest hindrance for peace among the muslims....
