What would you need drugs for? Anything and every solution anybody can come up with on Yahoo Answers is valid. Chew gum, yawn, drink something, blow out you nose while pinching it closed...the works. You don't need to pay for something that solves a problem that can be fixed for free.

There's nothing wrong with "popping" your ears - it's how they adjust to changing pressure.
If you don't want to hold your nose and blow, chew gum - that usually helps.
I scuba dive, and you have to clear your ears every 4-5 feet when you're descending...

On take-off, block your nose with your fingers and blow out gently at first, and a bit harder if that's not working. Your ears will go back to normal. Works every time for me.
BTW, no medicine has ever worked for me.
