It's really hard at that age as they are very aware that when they are put to bed that they are missing out on time with you and time doing things they enjoy.

Don't let him cry. They cry out of lonliness and fear and just wants to be with you. Soothe his fears, give hugs and kisses and lay him down again. Don't create fear by not responding to his cry. He will develop the fear that you will not always be there when he needs you.

It doesn't spoil him, it won't ruin his sleep patterns, just reassure him that all is well. It will help him learn to soothe himself knowing that you are there and even when he sleeps that you are there.

OK this question takes me into level two and i hope i am giving a good answer because i just answered a question honestly about ear ache in a child and some ass gave me the thumbs down lol........i have four growd up kids so i do know i am right in this.....i learned to stop moving their ma tress to try send them off and talked to them a lil bit and then stopped..if i see the slightest movement i made the odd noise or so and kept this up and eventually left the room but not so quiet as they realize it went dead quiet again...they sure feel happier if they can hear things like talking or music softly in background ie downstairs.....they will get used to this way of going to sleep rather than screaming the house down and making your life hell.....this may be more appropriate for younger babies ..FOXY

Some people say until they go to sleep. I never did that. Because I always felt that put a negative spin on going to bed. Crying also made them thristy and they seemed to wake up more during the night. You may just want to hold them and rock them to sleep. Or cuddle in your bed with them until they are asleep. Once in a while this does not hurt. Since you are asking about this because you are tired, it sounds like this is not a everyday problem. So you should be safe to let them fall asleep beside you.

I have twins that are 2 years old. I have one child that cry's when put to bed if not immediately then about 5 to 10 mins after putting to bed.

Here's a website about this situation. I refer to this website regularly and it has helped me with my situation.

Best of Luck

It is a delicate balance. YOu do not twant them to run the show, but you do not want them to feel abandoned. We generally let my son cry for n more than 10 min without checking on him. We do not take him out of the crib, we just reassure him that we are still there, lay him down , and try again. Eventually they learn to comfort themselves to sleep

Alot depends. Did you recently start putting your child to sleep alone or did he or she used to sleep with you all this time? Are there other children in the household with different bed times? Did your child watch something recently that he or she found scary? Is your child natrually afraid of being in a room by themselves? Was there a change in schedule? The list goes on and on. When it comes to children, I couldn't just provide and answer with such limited details. Goodluck with this.

no more than ten minutes. i do not believe in the cry it out method it makes your child worse.. and lets it feel abandoned etc.. try putting them to bed before they are too tired and leave them in there with a nightlight and a special toy or book so they can settle themselves... or try sitting next to them until they fall asleep for the first couple of nights and then each night move further away so that eventually you are no longer in the room and they can fall asleep by themselves.. remember short term pain(having to sit by them until they sleep) for long term gain(when they get used to it and sleep by themselves)!!

I would say about 45 minutes. There are other things that can be wrong.

Dehydration and ear aches just to name a few.

If it always occurs, check out if something in the room might be upseting or if the kid is sensitive to light.

Good Luck and be strong

Maybe you should hold them instead? Everyone wants to be comforted, especially children even when they are tired and crabby.

Until you're ready to get them up in the morning. Childern need to learn to put themselves to sleep. This will not damage them.
