I'm 21 yrs old and I have really bad posture. It all began when I was a teen. My mother blames my heavy backpack....to be honest I don't know why my posture is so bad. I never sit up straight....I get tired or my back starts to hurt. Lately I've noticed that my back doesn't look straight (like it should) it has this weird shape where my neck ends and I don't like it. When I correct my posture this weird shape is not noticeable but if I slouch it becomes visible. What can I do? I want my back to look straight.

The best bet to fix this problem since it is one of long standing is a chiropracter.
Gone are the days when chiro's were unregulated and considered quacks, btw. They will give you a thorough exam and recommend a treatment plan....that includes the exercizes to build the muscles that support your back, and resolve any 'furrowing' that has happened in the lower back due to the poor posture.
Nothing anyone will say here will be actual medical advice and could be more dangerous than leaving things as is, so please seek medical assistance before you try anything dangerous.

Good luck, HTH

my sisters always teased me as a kid calling me a hunchback, i have a terrible posture, im 32 and still do, the only way i can stand straight is if i try, so i try to b concious of it when i can, its a hard habit to break, so i stand straight only when i remember my posture, if u keep practicing it should get better, i even used to walk with a book on my head, try that, maybe we r just lazy, good luck

I get scared about my posture, too. What I do is set aside some time to just practice sitting up straight. Then, through-out the day, when I catch myself slouching, I sit up straight. Eventually, Your body will begin to catch itself on it's own, and it will become habit to sit up straight!:D

Hope this helps! :D

my cousin always slouches too. she is 16......you knwo those 3 inch heels that those muscley women wear in those pageants? they make u have good posture. (and flex muscles whichi s why they wear them) but also....just keep ur shoulders puched back and ur neck up. it only hurts because u slouched soo often my dear. if it hurts too much. u should probably go see a doctor. it migh tbe caused by something else. maybe u have a large chest?

Pilates (it's a kind of exercise) has really helped me with my posture. Although you need to see a doctor to make sure you don't have curvature of the spine. I think it's called scoliosis.
