Marketing aside, if that's possible.......The Dodge Charger is the only true "HOT ROD" you can buy for the street in Nascar right now because of it's rear wheel drive and Hemi etc......So why switch to the ho-hum Avenger?

I can see switching from the Monte Carlo SS to the Impala SS because of there long "Hot Rod" history and because there both still available with a potent small block Chevy V8, albiet currently front wheel drive........

The Toyota Camry and Ford Fusion are equally, truly, Boring on the street with a V6 as the best option.

So why would Dodge use the C.O.T. for the who cares front wheel drive V6 Avenger instead of a Purple Plum Crazy colored Hemi Charger?

The use of the Advenger is a long range plan.Though the Charger has a very colorful history(my personal favorite was the '67 charger) in NASCAR.
So with the C O T dodge feels they can have it better developed by the date NASCAR wants to have the C O T for all races.

Either in 2008 or 2009 all 36 races will be COT races, so why not introduce a car that is currently on the market.

Keep in mind, last season the Charger was not good mainly because of the nose. Dodge thinks that the Charger was not good as a COT car, but the Avenger maybe be.

Marketing is the reason for the switch unfortunatley. Thats why Chevy has gone to the Impala and why Dodge is going to the avenger. They are basing this on their sales and what will be selling.

They want to promote the Avenger, which is basically a smaller Charger. Which, is odd to me. The COT is bigger so lets promote the mid-size car with it and our full-size car with the regular car. I think they figured the Charger is a known name, and they can sell those regardless. The Avenger is not as known, and it is a cheaper car. Basically, Dodge is hoping to increase Avenger sales by this move.

Probably because during the Car of Tomorrow testing last year the chargers struggled.
