The bible certainly doesn't forbid it.

No, people's mistakes is that they fail to seperate the culture of a given people from the true teachings of the religion. It is appaling that today the oppression of women exists in many cultures of the world. women in many thirld world countries live horrible lives. they are dominated by men and denied many basic human rights. this does not apply to Muslim countries alone, nor does it apply to all muslim countries.
Islam condemns this oppression. It is tragic injustice to blame these cultural practices on religious beliefs when teachings of the religion do not call for such beahvior. The teaching of Islam forbid the oppression of women and clearly emphasizes that men and women are to be respected equally.

Not most , But yes there are few ignorant muslims whotreat their wives as a property.........its more cultrual than religious !! !!Quran only allow a light beating to that woman who gets disloyal to him and cheats on him and that is the last thing to do....Its Just ignorance of the men, who realy don't know how much islam honourd a woman ! there is no jsutification of beating a wife and i think such men are coward enough, its not a bravery to beat a person who is physicaly weaker than you !!
Qur'an 2.231]“ Do not retain them (i.e., your wives) to harm
them..
Some (women) visited my family complaining about their husbands (beating them). These (husbands) are not the best of you;" and"[It is not a shame that] one of you beats his wife like [an unscrupulous person] beats a slave and maybe he sleeps with her at the end of the day." (See Riyadh Al-Saliheen, op.cit,p.p. 137-140
[Qur'an 30.21] Among His proofs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, in order to have tranquility and contentment with each other, and He placed in your hearts love and care towards your spouses. In this, there are sufficient proofs for people who think.
O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of the dowry you have given them - except when they have become guilty of open lewdness. On the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If you take a dislike to them, it may be that you dislike something and Allah will bring about through it a great deal of good. (4:19)
Peace !

"Some" muslim men beat their wives because they have problems expressing their anger and rage verbally and so take it out on the closest innocent person physically....usually the wife. This is true for "some" men of all religions of all countries, of all cultures in the world.

The Holy Quaran prohibits men from treating women in that way. It encourages the respecting of women. Don't depend on these stupid articles.

Excellent post. I've tried to make this point on here numerous times. Muslims respond that the Qu'ran states that it says to "hit her lightly", which is not the words written in the Qu'ran. It's their attempt to survive an otherwise untenable position.
The Qu'ran specifically states a man is to beat his wife is she disobeys him. And this Muslim woman confirms it by stating it is "physical abuse", and she is quite correct.

I'd say it is not very common, but it happens. It probably happens more than Westerners admit it happens in the West, but in reality as often.
I beat my wife, but that's because I'm violent with post traumtic stress disorder; not because I'm Muslim.

Now, all the Muslims will deny this!
All the World knows how Muslims treat their women; Mohammad displays a very low opinion of women in the Koran, yet, all the Muslims will say this is all untrue!
Well, like I said before, they're delusional !
Following and adoring a pedophilic mass murder!
What more can you expect of those sickos?
Cheers!
