My husband had his aortic valve replaced last year. I asked a lot of questions but I did my best to stay out of the staffs' way.
There is an exception to this though. While I was sitting at my husband's bedside a nurse came in and started arguing with my husband (Who remember just had heart surgery). He started getting very upset and I jumped up and told her to GET OUT. When she did not do so I went out, found the charge nurse and had this particular nurse put off of my husband's case.
I filed a formal complaint with the hospital. I also filed another complaint against a nurse who made my husband wait over an hour for pain meds. I was at home when my husband called and told me about it. I jumped in the car and drove down there late at night and demanded his pain medication be administered NOW. By the time I got there he had been ignored for almost 2 hours. He was so weak and in so much pain. How could I not come to his defense?
I can be compliant and cooperative until it's time Not to be so.

Too many a time I spend in hospitals, I can tell you in all honest there is always has to be one nurse witch in every hospital. And Lisa I have see a lot of hospital and spend a fair bit of time in some (As Patience, as spouse, mother, relative and just visitor) I have never, thrown my weight around Unless it was last resort and long over due.
I've had to a few times, point well noted then moved on holding no remorse or further course of action afterwards taken. Not proud but yes I have.
As a person feeling the right to say this after what I first hand have came across is, We have to take step to secure and protect yourself when comes to our health. Always feel free to even get second opinions, stand up for yourself and your loved ones. Because there is way to many flaws in our health care system. TOO MANY MISTAKES GO UN NOTED.
At who's expense and suffering? Ours!
As for the nurse and doctors generally- Nope never bothered them and always helped with cleaning other if asked to. They know their job and do a good job at it.

Anyone who is rude to or gets in the way of the professionals caring for their sick loved one is an idiot!
Years ago visiting hours were extremely limited.. now most hospitals have extended visiting hours to allow more people to be able to see their loved ones without having to work around tiny windows of opportunity... but those extended hours mean that normal hospital business has to take place during that time period! Treatments go on, meals get served, and if you are in the way at the time, go to the cafeteria or for a walk.. get out of the way!

i visited my grandmother, who was dying. I really didn't care about the nurse staff at that moment, because it's not like they could do anything for her considering she couldn't eat and they couldn't put in an IV. My family had more important things to worry about than nurses and doctors. But we didn't demand anything besides a private room so our entire family could be in there with my grandma when she died, and we of course moved out of the way when the nurse had to check on my grandma.

For the most part I am very respectful of them because they have a hard job, but when my son was born almost 3 months early I did have some run-ins with a couple of the nurses that were assigned to care for him because they were trying to go against doctor's orders and I stood my ground. My husband called it the "Mama Bear Syndrome".
