Start by teaching your dog that the cat is part of the pack and must be accepted. Hold you cat by the cage and when the puppy barks tell it no and when it doesn't bark praise it. Your puppy has learned that the kitty is like a toy it barks and the toy runs. But be prepared that they may never get along. I have a very dominant cat who terrorized my dogs but they were taught that they were never ever allowed to touch the cats. However when I brought my St. Bernard puppy home the cat (Baby) would do his domination thing on the puppy. That worked until he scratched the puppy right by his eye. Teddy snarled and jumped at Baby and Baby ran. Teddy then realized that he now held dominate position. Baby and Teddy will never get along, Baby now rules the upstairs and Teddy the down. They drew territorial lines that the other doesn't cross. Teddy is fine with my other 3 cats he knows he's not allowed to chase or otherwise harass them but he and Baby will never get along

Sounds like the dog wants to play...... how big and old are each of the animals........ When the cat runs it just enforces the dogs desire to bark, so try introducing them in a controlled area where they can be together and not hurt each other. Also tell the dog NO, when this happens and reward him when he does not bark at the cat. they will learn to exist together but it will take time.... they may even become great companions..... be patient.

they will adjust. My dogs and cats have always gotten along fine. Sometimes cats take awhile as they tend to spook easier. Some dogs tend to chase and bark more. Your dog is just doing it for a reaction.. and he is getting one from the cat.. they will develop a relationship

your dog is probably barking partly because she's curious. you should let your dog out so that they can meet (maybe keep your dog on a leash or something so that your cat doesn't get as scared - and be sure that your dog and cat are always supervised), and the more your dog is around your cat the more she will get used to the cat.

A puppy would have adjusted to a kitten or a big cat, but with a grown-up dog you have to risk yourself and cat inorder to try make them friends, or introducing them with a common activity or plain letting them sniff each other.
But again, its the inherent nature in cats and dogs to be on opposite sides in this world. Why change it?

How long have you had the dog? I'm guessing just a short while. It takes time for them to get used to each other.
