Hi! For Science, my group had to monitor a fish in a bottle with freshwater (that has no fluoride, chlorine and other hazardous chemicals for the fish) for 15 days. I want to know what affected the ammonia levels in the freshwater.

I really appreciate your help!

ammonia in a fish tank is not good for the fish as it will cause a depletion of the 02 levels in the water. The most natural way to deal with it in a "closed" system such as a fish tank is to add live plants. These will help convert them into nitrates and the plants will comsume them. However, you may also find an imbalance in the Ph (acidity/alkalinity) during the balancing process. If the ammonia is to high I would recommend a water change ( use bottled drinking water NOT!!! distilled) of at least 25% of the tanks volume but not more than 50%.
