I would assume freezer paper, but I bought some freezer bags that were on sale. I didn't want to invest on freezer tape....though I imagine you could use masking tape if you had to. In the future though, what prevents freezer burn more efficiently?

Either one will do, provided you remove all the air from the bag before you close it, or tape the paper closed, leaving no air holes or openings. I find electrical tape works pretty good, if you don't have freezer tape. Masking tape tends to freeze and come unglued, peeling right off. Good luck.

I use freezer bags for everything! I have been using the store brand, but got frustrated this week with all the leaks I found as I was filling bags. So I restocked my supply with brand names, and think I'll stick with that.

I've started putting some things in single serving snack bags, which don't come in a freezer version. I just take all the snack size bags and put them in a 1 or 2 gallon freezer bag. Things like granola bars and snack mixes. When I make pie crust, I put the pieces of dough in a sandwich bag, and then put all of them in a gallon-size freezer bag. Since the gallon bag is holding the smaller bags, I keep re-using the gallon bag to refill with the smaller bags when I make a new batch of pie crust or whatever.

If you really want to keep your food from freezer burning, buy a Food Saver vacuum sealer. It's a little more costly for the bags, but I'll never use anything else. You can wash and re-use the bags also. You can use them as a boil-a-bag also, from the freezer to the boiling water and your stuff is ready. I bought my Food Saver at Costco when they had a discount coupon and they quite often have a discount on the bags.
