I have a 4 year old Akai tv dvd vcr combo unit. One of the reasons why I like this tv is that the colors are very vibrant. but lately I think the color isnt as bright/vibrant any more. is this possible or is it just my imagination? i dont think the user manul said anything about the color not being as bright/vibrant overtime. maybe dust or something got in there. and I adjusted it so that the color is up all the way and the contrast is up to which makes the color appear more vibrant. its not an HD its just a regluar tv but it does have a 20 inch flat screen. and u know how hd tvs have a light that lights up the screen and after awhile it will go out and it has to be replaced. I have a 60 inch sony hd and the user manul said that. well my akai doesnt have anything like that. so unfortunatly thats not an answer but any advice is well appreciated! thanks :)

Dust infiltration is highly unlikely....Do you smoke? If so, THAT's MORE LIKELY.....

Have you tried/verified the FACTORY SETTINGS? Contrast at maximum and COLOR/Brightness at 1/2.......

The Brightness control can be adjusted DOWN to enrich colors, but you sacrifice any detail in BLACK regions...

Here's some video alignment info.....

First you set your Brightness by looking at the BLACK parts of the picture...you want them black but with some details....pockets, lapels should be viewable....
NEXT set your Contrast....that adjusts the Whites in the picture....it should be bright, yet comfortable for the eyes....No flaming eyeballs or headache allowed!
LASTLY you set your COLOR....bring it up to where the skin tones look like skin and not DAY Glo skin.....

If that's still not satisfactory, then contact an Authorized Akai repair station and have them look at the Lamps...tell them what you told us.....

And yes....LCDs do have Lamps to backlight the display...
Just depends how it's manufactured whether it's cheap or expensive to rejuvenate the color....
