Do you think it is rude for your immediate family (mum, dad and siblings) not to send you an engagement card? .. Or do you think in this day-in-age a phone call of congrats is sufficient? I live overseas from my family, so it’s not as if they would be here for an engagement party, in fact I don’t think any of my family will turn up for the wedding at this stage.

I think some people are misreading me. Of course it was great to hear my parents on the phone, I just thought it would be a nice gesture to have an engagement card (yes there is such a think) from family and friends - something you can keep like a wedding card ... I just thought it would be a polite thing to do …. Guess I am wrong … or old fashioned. I only plan to get engaged the once.

it would be a nice gesture, then they can keep the card as a memory :)

i got engaged last summer and i have yet to get a card from any of my family. My mom is mad cause i wont involve my sisters in my wedding party and cause i wont invite 600+ people from her side of the family. but yes in this day and age a phone call is sufficient for over seas. who knows maybe they are saving the card for when you come home, they could be cheap ya know.

I have only sent a happy engagement card once. It was the one time that I could not attend the engagement party.

My feelings have been hurt when my sister (my only living family member) forgets my wedding anniversary. It especially hurts because my husband's relatives always remember.

CONGRATULATIONS in your engagement and pending nuptials!!

Well, I would rather hear their congrats then read them, but that's really up to you. I don't think it's necessarily rude, but hopefully they'll send a card for the wedding!

Congratulations!!

What a strange girl you must be to prefer a Hallmark greeting to a telephone call from your nearest and dearest!

No I don't think it's rude of them to rather talk to you and hear the excitement in your voice as you tell them about your fiance and your wedding plans!

I received cards for my bridal shower and then again for our wedding. If you are having a shower they should just wait to send one then.
