If you know of anyone who is now blind but used to be able to see, could you ask them for me?

My brother lost his eyesight slowly from dietibies, he is now totally blind, I know what it is like for him for I care for him, have been caring for him for the past ten years, he has been blind now for 6 years.

He used to be able to make furnture, use a saw, hammer, chisel, bandsaw, other tools, when he was nearly blind he went out to the shop when no one was home and he turn on the bandsaw trying to cut a piece of wood, instead he came closed to cutting his hand off instead, it scare him so bad that it sent him into a deep depression state, which at this time he also just simply gave up on everything and everyone around him, he saw no hope at wanting to live.

But then sometime later we manage to get him hook up with the Blind Center, there they teach people how to read brail, cook, sew, and basically relearning to live all over again except this time in darkness.

My brother was doing really good with this and so we thought his depression was better, well that is not so, for he is still depressed yet for he is still unable to do the things that he once enjoyed, he used to hunt with a rifle, go out on hunting trips, he misses that very much...now he can even remember what a rifle even looks like, he can only guess what it might still look like.

He tells me when he dreams he no longer sees colors like he used to do when he was able to see....and now that he is totally blind he sees nothing, only a bright light that burns his eyes, he has to wear dark sunglasses to keep bright lights from hurting his eyes, it used to be that when he was about to go complety blind, he used to see black on white better than white on black, but now he sees nothing, only a dark deep grey mass as he has told me.

When my brother is outdoors walking he needs a seeing eye cane, he also depends on his feet, he shuffles his feet while he is walking and probbing his seeing cane back and fourth, this is how he sees now. he uses his feet to feel the ground with, and his cane to find what is around him and before him, but sometimes he will stumble and fall and hit the ground...he has even gotten lost just crossing the street, he lost all of his sense of directions he do not know which way is south, north, west or east..he can't see to know of this, so when he is walking across the street alone he sometimes thinks is walking straight where he is not and has been known to start walking down the middle of the street trying to find the curb..I try to be with him to walk him across the street or one of his friends.

Now my brother is facing another problem, he is now loosing his hearing really badly, and being blind and unable to hear will really put him into darkness.

I be glad to answer any more of your questions on blindness.

My grandmother was also blind, but with her that is different from my blind brother is that she lost her sight from falling by hitting the side of her head, I never knew her when she could see and only knew her when she was blind and we used to play games of hide and go seek, she would find me every time, she told me she could hear me even though I was very quiet.
