Several years ago I was traveling by bus. While stopped at a depot, a young man that looked to be in his 20's boarded the bus and sat in the back by himself. A young woman on board approached him and struck up a conversation with him. She was laughing and giggling and acting really weird. At the next stop, this young man followed the bus driver into the restroom and told the driver that this woman on board had dope, showed it to him and had offered him some which he declined.
Afterwards the bus continued down a highway and was stopped by the police who secured the bus. The police entered the bus, approached the woman, confiscated the drugs and hauled her off in handcuffs. This young man was visibly shaken and in tears. I asked him if he would like to sit by me and he did. He told me he was on his way to his brother's funeral, his brother had died from a drug overdose. I held his hand as he said he hoped he did the right thing in reporting this woman. I told him he did the right thing

and never doubt that. I never did find out his name or where he was from. But every day I say a prayer for him and that he's safe. I'd be proud to call him my own. Would you?

This is a young man on the right track....yes.

He knows the law.

He knows drugs are addictive and dangerous.

He knows someone has to be and adult in situations like this.

He wishes he could turn back time but isn't playing a victim...life has dealt him a hard deck that molded him instead of folding him.

I am not a parent, but feel I should contribute to this. I would absolutely be proud of him. He may not have been able to help his own brother (maybe they lived too far apart and he didn't know about his brother's lifestyle). But he at least tried to separate this young lady from her habit and hopefully shake her into reality. She may have gone clean now, she may have fallen back into the habit. But he can at least say he tried to do something proactive.

Incidentally, I just found out recently that my younger sibling had been hanging out with some neighbors at a previous home who were drug users. When I found out that my sibling had also been introduced to it, and had my niece with her there, I hit the roof. I don't live in the same area, but I have people that are mutual friends making sure that it doesn't happen anymore. They too are instructed to notify the police and then my parents. I do NOT want any of this kind of influence around anyone in my family, adult or child.

Yes and no yes he did do a right hting by getting rid of dope off the street

no because he should have been more proactive in his brothers use of drugs and help keep him alive, clean and happy.

Hopefully the young man is still on the right track and taking a proactive approach to keeping the drugs off the street and people off both

Absolutely I would be proud of him. As a parent I am proud of my children regardless. But to show compassion heightens the respect for a child.

Yes I would and also to be proud to have a caring friend like you. You offered him a seat by you and comforted him. Good for you, I wish more people were like that and cared about others around them!

Definately! It takes courage to say NO to drugs, but to report the person who offered it as well........now that takes some guts. Good on him I say...!
