Only smart women deserve or want a smart man. What do most people know about any of the subjects you listed?
I think intelligence is only worth being spent on someone with which there is a parity.
If a woman wants to marry someone who is successful then she should be able to have a conversation, which is part of that lifestyle.
For those who suggested a good education...
Education is worth nothing if a man isn't able to integrate what he has learned into being perceptive.
And you'll be able to say things about her which are ultimately more meaningful because you are more aware. An average man complimenting a woman is never as eloquent as an intelligent man.

Just an idea, maybe you're coming off as trying to show off. Easing into a discussion by saying I was reading a book about philosophy and it said that Diogenes claimed to have never met an honest man. Do you think there is anyone who is completely honest?" It involves her in the discussion, at a level that anyone could relate to. Asking, "What are the limits on Keynesian economics", just invites a blank stare.
Also, women will tell you that they want what they think they should want; smart, sensitive, kind, etc. (Yeah, yeah, yeah) To find out what women REALLY want, ask their friends what their "type" is. She likes brooding self-absorbed artists, or the ever cliched "bad-boy" is the more likely answer.

Women don't know what they want. That's the answer. They SAY they want all these things, but in reality, they just want someone who is attractive, fun, and alpha. So if you can build that attraction, she'll like you. Talking about economics, politics, philosophy doesn't seem like it will stir up the attraction mechanism inside a woman does it? Maybe it will be interesting to your guy friends... You can bring all that stuff to the table afterwards.

Because you're barking up the wrong knowledge tree my friend.
They typically want your intelligence to be geared towards their needs, rather than technical hob-knob.
And their needs are to be sought, not laid out like specs on the drafting table. That is not a turn on for them.
Ultimately, women love a certain amount of attention. Anything that distracts you from giving this to them will die a miserable and short lived death.
Attention make women feel beautiful and needed. Not the latest white paper on stocks and bonds.

They want a smart man, but they don't want a boring man either. They want somebody that's fun, but can also carry on good conversation.
Learn to be fun, and they will appreciate your brain even more. Math is not a good dating topic (unless it's a homework date).

Wow, you sound like someone who will interest me. =P
Well, it seems those kind of women are the ones who put on a show- to appear intelligent because they know they're otherwise intelligently impaired to attract guys who, hmm, idk, are richer perhaps?
Since intelligent people generally do better at school, therefore they earn higher, and thus you see $ in their eyes.
But then again, maybe the sub topics with which you approach them aren't exactly their 'type', you claim to talk about [insert string of stuff you wrote], but maybe that which interests you might not be interesting to them.
In any case, I answered because I'd love to be reminded that people like you exist; I thought the world consisted of dumb boys who talk about cars, computers and football, since, well, those are the types I usually come across. =/
heh.

Because they want a smart friend to talk to. This can be their freakin' hair dresser. Get real. In a man they want someone who is hot, rich, popular and who sends shivers down thier back but would feel shallow if they admitted it.

Maybe it's the women to which you're speaking. Intelligent women prefer men of equal intellect or higher. :)

Well you have to look at your target audience. Maybe empathy is what you lack. When they say smart, they often mean well educated. Which means rich.
