You rub something he despises on whatever he is chewing: Tobasco sauce, jalepeño peppers, etc.
Also, put some rocks into an aluminum can, and whenver he is chewing, shake it really loudly close to him. Do this many times so that that way, he will learn to not chew or else he will hear that terrible noise.

My dog Jack, (a scottie) chews excessively too, but we found that if we only leave his toys on the floor, that's all he will chew on. If we leave a shoe out, consider it ruined. The most helpful thing that we did was to put everything we didn't want chewed up out of his reach. He's a dog, you can't say "stop chewing that" and he'll listen. You need to ONLY provide him with things that are acceptable to chew. If there is a bone or rawhide chew on the floor he won't even touch his toys. As for your hand, it's actually quite normal for a dog. Since they don't speak, they use their mouths to communicate. Chewing is shown as a form of affection. Biting is a different situation. Don't let him do it. Take your hand out of his mouth and say "don't bite." If you let him bite he will bite EVERYTHING. Good luck!

How old is the dog? Get him a chew toy or rawhide. whenever you catch the dog chewing on something you do not want it to firmly say NO then give it the toy.... Persistence is the rule......If it is an older dog and it is chewing specific items like baseboards, furniture corners etc.... put a bit of cyan pepper on the items (Not too much) it burns the tongue and if sniffed the nose..... (try it yourself and you will see what I am talking about) but will not hurt the dog in small amounts. We did this with our schnauzer who would not leave our baseboard corners alone..... after 2-3 mouth fulls and alot of water she never touched another baseboard again.

If your dog won't stop chewing their are lots of things you can do to help him stop. You can get this spray, and spray everything that he likes to chew on. Once he smells the stuff he won't like it, and will go find something else to chew on. Once he does that you get him a bone that is thick, and has some kind of meat in it. My dog loves those!

We had the same issues here with our new pup, we lost our Brandy (age 9) to the dog food recall situation- and got a new pup recently- we have a lot of toys here for him now, and also you can buy (and are safe) CHEWEEZ they are flat rawhide like bone/treats- our pup is teething so badly he chews on anything that moves or doesn't move. So these flat rawhides work wonders for his chewing and he chews on these more than anything- they come in a box in the treats section of Shop Rite stores. One will last weeks. They soften as they chew on it, so no splintering to worry about.
Also, we have a sock which we tied in a knot, I just bought a toy that has a rope on it, connected to a plastic squeek toy, which also has plush at the ends (legs and feet) this is like 3 toys in one, rope for soothing teeth, plush for chew, and squeek part for entertainment.
Now- one thing you need to do is to first show him you are in control, not him. Stare him in the eye until he looks away, this shows him you are in control. Do this when you are angry at his actions. Also, when he goes for your feet or hands, or anything you do not want him to chew on, grab a toy and place it to him and firmly say "No, you chew on TOY" you will find yourself doing this a lot. Keep pushing a toy to him when he tries to chew something that isn't his.
When all else fails, and I am at my witts end, I grab a magazine, fold it in half and keep it handy, I tap him on the rear with it and say "NO!" he hates it and stops being progressive. I don't do this often, just when he gets out of control to the point he wont stop. I just pick the magazine up now and he stops. He will learn. Don't give up.
They do not like bells, so a bell will also get his attention, or a coffee can filled with coins, if you shake it when he does something he isn't allowed to do, he will hault at that awful sound. I have not needed to resort to that and try to avoid things that will make him upset or nervous. Isn't good either!
It is frustrating, but in time he will tame down. Pups teeth will fall out at 6 months and he will get new ones, chewing then usually comes to a hault. Boy I can't wait for that!

Just show him that this is not a behaviour that will give him some reward, like playing. Don't play with him or even tap him when he does that. Withdraw your hand, say NO, bad dog, and completely ignore him for some time. Stay still and don't let him do it. When he doesn't do that play and praise him. I guess he is a puppy, so you really need to stop this now, because if he does this when he is older it will be a problem. Don't use any violence, not even slight tapping, because it will get worse.

Be consistant! try shaping your hand like it was a dog's muzzle, and use your fingers to simulate a swift bite from a dog. At the same time make a load noise or simply say sharply "QUIT!"
Each time he barely begins to bite or chew repeat it.

Try chew toys or even a old clean pair of socks of yours.. Sometimes your sent when away will help keep them calm... Just try different chew toys to see if it will help... My last puppy chewed on everything I put everything out of his reach.. And tried to tire him out throughout the Day to see if that seems to help too...
