Its an oldie but a goodie - put the ring in her champagne glass after a romantic dinner for two...... or take her to a beach or watersedge and organise a caterer to have dinner for just the two of you (not a traditional restaurant) and have the champagne trick - I loved it when I heard it and I bet she will too..... maybe try hiring a yaucht (with a skipper) for a day and wait till sunset - but prepare a beautiful speech and include your sincere love and the things you want for her as you ask her... wait for the right time too, dont rush it if you think she may delay her answer.... best of luck and hope you have a long and very sucessful marriage

My husband proposed at our friend's wedding. She introduced us the year before. They set me up - they planned on me catching the bouquet (I did) and then he came out on the dance floor and proposed. At least I was already dressed up nice!

Personally, I think restaurants are unpersonal and cliche. Either be alone with each other, or amongst friends and family. Maybe a favorite place you've both wanted to visit?

Personally, I would not want my ring-to-be placed in ANY beverage or food - let alone handled by strangers.

p.s. - almost forgot - talk to the friends and relatives (anyone she confides in) about places/things she might like. They might even be able to do some sleuth work for you. I knew that my husband was going to propose at some point, I just had no idea WHEN.

The best way to propose is as sincerely as possible. Your future wife will always remember that day regardless of any gimmicks or surprises you may have. What ever you do, don't put her in the position of being embarassed by your "creativity." That will be a big turn off.

Be yourself. Be sincere. Tell her how much you love her.

That's all. Very simple. But it's from the heart. That's what counts..

It shouldn't matter where or how. If she loves you for you, then she'll say yes and anyway you propose will be romantic b/c it is you that is doing the asking.

Remember to discuss it first. Discussing it lets you know whether the two of you are at the right place and are ready to commit seriously. Then, she'll expect it, but not know when. It's better to take marriage seriously and in real time discussing it first. You can still make the proposing very "cloud-nine, movie-fantasy" like.

I had planned to propose using lines similar to: "I have decided to make a promise to you. To love and cherish you for the rest of my life, and I wanted to know if you would promise me the same?"

I think it's important to restructure the proposal into something other than "will you marry me?" Although they are serviceable, they don't really tell me "I love you, stand by my side forever because I want to stand by yours."

Placement is key, I chose a day easy for my fiance to remember because he's bad with dates (Christmas, in fact), while we were laying in bed together and slipped the ring into his hand. He totally did not expect it - though admittedly we had discussed the possibility of marriage for a full 2 months before and he knew that I was buying him a ring (very untraditional).

I have seen rings placed in all sorts of places after working in a floral shop - tucked into a rose bud, tied in with the bouquet, tossed into the vase itself. The key element is surprise, and let's hope that this is a happy one!

(P.S. In the end, the mere act of slipping him the ring caused him to jump out of bed, throw on the lights, and exalt in such a fashion that I was unable to actually get a decent proposal question out because he totally spoiled the mood in a very comical manner - however we both knew the answer)

Why are you asking us? This should be your own unique experience that's special to her and your relationship.

General advice:
- Make it unique
- Catch her off guard
- Take her to the location of your first date, first kiss, first time you fell for each other, or your favorite destination together

Good luck. Be creative.

You can take her to dinner and make arrangements with the restaurant to have the ring placed in her dessert or wine glass. You could slip it into her wine glass when she goes to the restroom.
