I am not romantically connected nor do I want to be - but he is leaving work soon and I will miss him - what can I do to keep up the friendship - would this seem normal to everyone else?

I'm in my 40's. I've worked lots of places, and over the course of many years, have hit it off with alot of people that are my friends now. Lots of them are women. Some are married women. There's nothing wrong with it, because we are just friends and we don't flirt, don't plan on flirting, and don't do anything inappropriate in any way. We just have a nice affection as friends for each other. It's perfectly normal.

If you are just friends, I'd doubt if you need to explain that it's non-romantic. I'd tell him that you value his friendship, and would not want to lose his friendship even though you won't be seeing him at work everyday. Ask for his e-mail address, and tell him to give you a call when he gets settled into his new job. If it's local, agree to meet for lunch on a regular basis. Then, follow through of course. Maybe not every week, but whatever is comfortable for you both.

Good luck
Kevin

most times i have found that unless two people who work together were friends before ending up at the same job or unless they had become very good friends the people dont see much of each other if one leaves that place of work.
what you are doing may seem odd but if that is what you and he think is cool then go for it . i would not mention the relationship to the work mates after he is gone except for a very trusted friend and co worker.

i would give him a leaving card and put your contact details on the back

inside just sign your name and put *please stay in touch* and leave it at that

if he wants to stay in touch with you then he will - no matter what others think - what is it to do with 'everyone else' anyway?
