Yeah, i know this has the potential to go terrible in just a couple posts...But i am curious about religion. I wasnt really ever raised one way or another. My mother was raised one way, my step father the other, and my bio father was raised a completely different way. My mother decided that i should be allowed to choose my own religion when i became of age. I have studied a bit of catholic/christian/aetheist religions, but i wanted to know what the best religion is in your eyes, and basically why you think so. I'm really looking for as many options as possible, so i can research them myself, in my own time. Thank you :)

Only one of the earth's religions, Christianity, possesses all of the following attributes:

1. Other religions revolve around their founder’s teachings, rules, regulations, and rituals. Christianity, however, revolves around a Living Person, the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Christianity is unique because it is based upon historical facts and the revelation of God in the Bible.
3. Christianity is the only religion that offers the Assurance and Security of Salvation
4. It is the only religion that teaches that salvation is a free gift of god’s grace. There is nothing a person can do to merit salvation, since it is received through faith, apart from works.
5. Other religions were started because of man’s attempt to search for the supernatural, search for the truth, appease their innate sense of sin and guilt, and find favor with his god. But Christianity is the account of God’s search for mankind. "For the Son of Man has come to see and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10; John 10:10). His love for us was the reason He has revealed Himself to us through His Son Jesus and by His grace we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9).
6. It reveals God as the Triune God - God as the Father, God as the Son, and God as the Spirit
7. Christianity is exclusive in its claims. How is Christianity Exclusive?

A. The God of Christianity is claimed to be the only true God (Jeremiah 10:10; Jude 25).

B. The Bible is claimed to be the Word of God and the only true revelation from God (Isaiah 8:20; Revelation 22:18-19; 2 Timothy 3:16).

Some have claimed that the bible is no more accurate that Homer's Iliad. I respectfully disagree and the table shown at the link below clearly demonstrates my argument that the Bible is one of the most accurate sources for the events described in it.

Investigation will also reveal that there exists NO SINGLE SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY that has been shown to prove error, factually or doctrinally, in the Bible. There is lots of speculation and hypotheses, but not a single verifiable fact.

To make this claim alone is quite a feat for ancient texts, but when you add to it the fact that the Bible was written over more than 1,500 years by forty vastly different writers, yet every book in the Bible is consistent in its message. These 66 books talk about history, prophecy, poetry, and theology.

No human beings could have planned such an intricate combination of books over a 1,500-year time span. Bible manuscripts (remember, there were no printing presses until 1455) have survived despite weather, persecution and time. Most ancient writings written on weak materials like papyrus have vanished all together. Yet many copies of the Old Testament scriptures survived. For instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls contain all books of the Old Testament, except Esther, and have been dated to before the time of Christ. Now consider Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Only ten copies written about 1,000 years after the event are in existence. In comparison, there are over 24,000+ New Testament manuscripts, the earliest one dating to within 24 years after Christ.

The Bible also validates its divine authorship through fulfilled prophecies. An astonishing 668 prophecies have been fulfilled and none have ever been proven false (three are unconfirmed).

An honest study of biblical prophecy will compellingly show the divine authorship of the Bible. Further, archeology confirms (or in some cases supports) accounts in the biblical record. No other holy book comes close to the Bible in the amount of evidence supporting its divine authorship.

C. The Biblical Way of Salvation is the only way of salvation. There is no other way (John 3:36). No matter how good, religious or sincere a person may be, unless he or she has faith in Jesus they will not be saved. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

D. Jesus Christ claims to be the only way to God, the only way of salvation and the only way to eternal life in heaven (John 3:16-17). Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6).

First, atheism isn't a religion, it's a choice to have a lack of faith.

I am Catholic and should probably say that Catholism is the 'best' religion. I don't think it's the 'best'. I believe it's the one, true religion to knowing the one and only true God. But I don't think a religion is what make it, it's the people in the community. It's the individual. Look at Christianity, history shows us many wars and deaths. Priests sold indulgences. Some Catholic priests have been molesting young altar boys & the Church kept it hush-hush for years. Look at Judaism, history shows us wars and killings, stealing, embezzling. Recently some rabbis were found to have been pedophiles. Look are Islam, the same. So I don't think anyone can say one religion or religious group is the best or even better than another. It's how the people are with their faith. True religious people are loving, caring and loyal and devote their lives to God. That's my opinion. Peace!

Which Religion in your opinion is best?

In the name of Allaah Most Benefit Most Merciful
All praise be to Allaah the Lord of all worlds
May Allaah's peace and blessing be upon His prophet, his family and companions

1. Go to http://www.islamreligion.com
You have here the section 'Comparative religion' Its about the relation Islam-Christanity

2. Go to http://www.islamhouse.com/
There are many books and articles here. There's a nice book here called:'Answers to non-Muslim' common question about Islam'

3. Go to http://thetruereligion.org/
Also, many info can be found

These are my favourites, I recommend to all. Beside the question related to Islam itself, the relation of other religion-systems is being desribed here.

4. http://www.answering-christianity.com/
The main topic here is the Christianity, but you ofcourse have answers to to atheism. Although I'm not oftten on this site, but manyinfo is here collected.

I honestly wish you, that you realize the truth, and that you find the Light. All religions aren't the same, they teach different beliefs. It's pure logic, not all can be true, they can only be similar in some ways. When you have doubts on something ask someone else, even the most clever people need help.

I ask you to to think about Islam. Islam teaches the man and woman, the perfect moral, the best way to achieve the best on this world and the Hereafter. I don't say this just like that, for every this point, I have an ayat - a verse from Qur'an - to mention. You'll find many info on the sites I mentioned. If you still have something to ask, I'm all ear!!!

''Let there be no compulsion in religion: truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most trustworthy hand hold, never breaks. and God heareth and knoweth all things.'' Qur'an, 2:256

''truth has (now) arrived, and falsehood perished: for falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish.'' Qur'an, 17:81

And all praise be to Allaah the Lord of all worlds
And may Allaah’s blessing be upon His prophet Muhammad, his family and companions

Religion in the theistic sense is poison. Organized religion masquerades as a "harvester of souls," when all it really is, is a money-making enterprise scamming a whole lot of mindlessly gullible and wretchedly desperate "souls." Most ancient religions have not survived and have been relegated to mythology and folklore. Today's religion will also be tomorrow's myth. Unfortunately, another one will spring up in its place and continue to perpetuate the human conflicts born from religious differences. That is the way it is.

Well, in all reality no religion is good. Most of them have their "extras" but some do follow the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was raised catholic, but renounced that religion because of the false teachings, such as idol worship, etc. I am now a born again Christian and we call ourselves followers of Jesus. We only follow scripture out of the Holy Bible (KJV) 1611, the only Bible that has never been messed with. The NIV, NKJV, NLT and those are all corrupt ones that have had scripture and words removed and twisted. As far as a church to go to, I have found that the Baptist one is the best one as long as they don't practice charismatic healing. I also like the Baptist Bible study groups. I usually fellowship with ex-Hutterites and Mennonites and we women wear Mennonite dresses and head covers when we worship and study, but I also go to Baptist Bible studies with my friend. Just go into a church and taste the fruit. Look around and see if they study the true word of God and teach salvation through Jesus Christ. Here is a website that has alot of religions listed. When you get to it, click on "false religion" you don't want to be locked into false teachings. Yes, there is a God, there is Heaven and there is also a hell whether people want to believe it or not.

In my opinion, the best religion is the one that makes sense to you, fulfills you emotionally and spiritually, and helps you be the best person you can be. The same religion will not fulfill this need for everyone.

You might find the Belief-O-Matic quiz over at Beliefnet.com helpful in determining which religion or philosophy is a good fit for you:

It's fun, and it matches you up with a wide variety of religions and philosophies based on your answers, with write-ups for each one. The results can be very surprising.

Unitarian Universalist is my choice. An open to many beliefs and judgment of none religion that believes there is no right or wrong path to God but many different ones.
I think regardless of the religion you choose it is the congregation that will either keep you going back or not. If you feel welcome and enjoy the message you get it is a fit.
Namaste.

Religion comes from the Latin word ralingary, which literally means to relink. What it is is mans attempt to relink himself to a Holy God.
Religions stink. Try a relationship, one that is real and easy. True Christianity is the only one that works in relinking man to God. It is based solely on a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Blessings!

I think Shinto is the better. Everything has it's "special god". That special god is found in the nature of what it is. ie. A rock or stone has a "kame" whose nature says it is a stone. Can't be anything else. So the nature of an object or thing is contained in its special god (spirit or kame)
That doesn't mean there are millions of gods out there, only millions of natures to learn. It is the nature of the spider to eat flies. Do you think the fly god cares.

You will also find that the roots of Zen-Buddism is remarkably clost to Shintoism which preceded it by 500 years.

It doesn't matter much so long as you don't join some stupid cult like scientology. All the majors teach some version of the golden rule and everything else is commentary, as the saying goes.

I like to think that how we live is more important than what we believe. Better to be an ethical atheist than an unethical Christian.
