There are many different forms of Satanism. First division you can use is Modern Satanism (mostly atheists but not necessary) and Theistic Satanists who believe in Satan as a existing being. I can place myself in latter group (so in my subjective opinion Theistic Satanism is great but it's not religion for everyone). You can use also other categories to differ it but there will be always things which don't fit anywhere or overlap with other beliefs. Since that topic is more than complex (you can write a book or even few books) and hard to answer I send you to the best source site about Theistic Satanism in the net (link below). This site is very spacious so it cold be sometimes hard to dig for needed informations. Note that there are some other satanic organizations which don't agree with it and have their own opinion. Study it carefully because there are no clear and easy answers here.

Too bad that so many of the people answering this question don't actually seem to know anything about Satanism... "Satanism" does not actually involve worshipping or even believing in Satan. Most Satanists are actually atheistic in that they do not believe in any deities. Why are they called Satanists then, if they don't worship Satan? Because the founder of Satanism, Anton LaVey, identified the religion symbolically with Satan as a free-thinking figure that refused to serve God. It could also be said that he chose the name for a bit of shock value, which he considered a good thing.

Most Satanists believe in self-deification, that is the belief that there are no "real" gods, so you are really your own god with ultimate control over your own destiny. They believe in bettering themselves, not believing anything mindlessly, and being their own master. There are different varieties of Satanism, but most tend to hold these beliefs.

I am a Satanist, and I have studied every religion to date. I am a Theistic Satanist, we do not worship "the devil" either, lots of theistic Satanists have different viewpoints on who he is, some believe he is the Egyptian God Ptah or Set, and the Sumerian/Babylonian God Ea/Enki *WE DONT PERFORM ANY RITUAL SACRAFICES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, they have NO PURPOSE*. LaVeyan Satanism is a a different story, LaVey created it as an act to indulge in desire and likes, and look at Satan as an archetype corresponding to this. Lavey also studied ancient witchcraft and put it into his rituals, which he uses for the psyche of doing them.

Satanism has no belief in deities at all. Sacrifices in Satanism are usually done by stupid kids who don't know what it is. The closest thing I've seen a Satanist do to a sacrifice is masturbate.

Look up "Thechurchofsatan.com" You'd be surprised that under the veneer of scare tactics they use, they are quite nice people.

I'm not a Satanist, but I use much of the philosophy. Essentially: "Have fun in life, take what you want and need, but take respopnsibility for what you do."

Firstly, I don't see what loving animals has to do with Satanism - in no way, shape or form does Satanism harm animals or children, all that sacrifical BS is just that... BS. Secondly, Satanism has nothing to do with "Worshipping the Devil" - In fact, it teaches you to to be a deity you have potential to be. Read the Satanic Bible. I'm not personally a Satanist but have many friends who are... However, I think it makes a lot more sense than Christianity does, spiritually and in a practical sense. At least it doesn't contradict itself.

oh cool :D ..... I am scored as affinity towards Buddhism and closely followed by Atheism ... which is what I am ;)

Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Buddhism. Do more research on Buddhism and possibly consider becoming Buddhist, if you are not already. In Buddhism, there are Four Noble Truths: (1) Life is suffering. (2) All suffering is caused by ignorance of the nature of reality and the craving, attachment, and grasping that result from such ignorance. (3) Suffering can be ended by overcoming ignorance and attachment. (4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation. These eight are usually divided into three categories that base the Buddhist faith: morality, wisdom, and samadhi, or concentration. In Buddhism, there is no hierarchy, nor caste system; the Buddha taught that one's spiritual worth is not based on birth.

Modern LaVey Satanism is very misunderstood. It has nothing to do with devil worship and it actually promotes the well-being of animals. It could be argued that it's more of a philosophy than a religion. It is sometimes referred to as the "unreligion".

Satanism is about becomeing a godhead. But most of us accept ourselves as humans and just try to 1)take down the lie that is christianity, jewdism, islam. 2) master the world around us (control the elements) 3) find the true God

I'm not a Satanist but I have studied LaVeyan Satanism and greatly admire Anton LaVey. Modern or LaVeyan Satanism is basically a mixture of Atheism, Hedonism, and Humanism. LaVeyan Satanists do not believe in any Gods or an afterlife of any kind. They don't literally worship Satan, but rather think of him as a symbol of man's nature and ego. In Satanism the individual is considered to be of the foremost importance, one's own happiness and well-being are considered before that of anyone else. Satanists ascribe to the philosophy of "Do unto others AS they do unto you".The old animal sacrifice and ritual abuse stories are just stereotypes and have nothing whatsoever to do with the philosophy of Anton LaVey. If you read the Satanic Bible, you'll see that Anton LaVey is clearly against harming animals or children. Despite the stigma attached to the title of Satanist, Satanism is actually a very down-to-earth religion that doesn't make any idealistic and unrealistic demands of its followers.
