Get a DirectX 10 compatible video card like the GeForce 8800GTX. Then make sure your system has at least 2GB of system RAM, SATA Hard Drive and of course a fast enough CPU. If you have the right equipment, Vista works great!

Vista is certainly not ready for prime time, and perhaps will not be until the second half of 2007. There is so much overhead in the operating system that CPU intensive progs like games and media recording take a serious hit, and that is irregardless of having sufficient CPU horsepower, memory and disk.
If XP is a rabbit then the turtle is Vista. The only way back to wellness is to reformat your drive and install XP from scratch
If you are not having trouble with Vista, then you do not do much with a computer anyway, so you may as well just leave it alone, However...
if you are a gamer, power user or small business with lots of legacy peripherals and/or custom software, avoid it like the plague. Vista's day will come, but you are not being payed to QA this beast and it will most likely eat you.

Because every new version of Windows is full of bugs when it's first released, that and the fact that it uses significantly more resources than the previous version, so all its captive users have to go out and buy more memory and faster processors just to get the same performance they already had with their old systems!
I personally don't go anywhere near new versions of Windows until they're at least two years old and the worst of the problems have been fixed - and the extra memory and faster processors are cheaper.
Microsoft has always used its customers as unwitting beta testers. Welcome to the corporate world.
PS: charleyw..., I agree with you wholeheartedly, but the word is 'regardless'. Adding 'ir' to the front of it makes it a double negative, sort of like buying two copies of Vista...
