Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

The way I see it, all these things listed here fill television and movies and though many professing Christians do not do them yet by watching them and paying to watch people break all of Gods commandment they are taking pleasure in them that do do them and that is equally punishable.

The reason I brought this up is not simply because it bothers me. I you look at the last verse, it says they who take pleasure in them are guilty, it doesn't matter if it does not bother youm that is even worse, if you find no problem with it, you are not spiritully mature but guilty according to this verse, simply for being entertained by other people doing things that you know are thevery reason Christ came and why Gods wrath is upon them, you take pleasure out of their evildoing

Although I agree that it is improper for true Christians to be entertained by that which God hates, these verses do not apply specifically to television. Let's look at those verses in context:In verses 18-27 Paul speaks pointedly to those who deliberately supress truth despite the fact that truth has been revealed to them by God. This would include everyone since, even if a person never read God's word they could at least percieve God's existence through his creation. These so called "wise" ones become foolish in that they fail to give honor and thanks to their creator. Because of this their hearts became darkened and God gave them up to do whatever vile thing their darkened hearts dictated which is where Paul begins to list some of their iniquities. Then he states in the last verse of that chapter "Although these know full well the righteous decree of God, that those practicing such things are deserving of death, they not only keep on doing them but also consent with those practicing them."(NWT)
That said there is a principal involved that should help Christians decide whether or not to enjoy any particular television program, movie or musical selection. That is found at Psalms 97:10. there it says "Ye that love the LORD, hate evil:.."(KJV) Also at Amos 5:15 it says Hate what is bad, and love what is good, and give justice a place in the gate. It may be that Jehovah the God of armies will show favor to the remaining ones of Joseph.’(NWT) Hating what is bad, we will certainly not be entertained by it. Although television, movies and most other forms of entertainment reflect the standards of Satan's world, Christians do recognize that these devices are only tools that can be used for good or evil. Satan effectively uses them for evil which is why Christians must be on guard and selective about the entertainment they choose.

why worry about TV? remember that that is just the least of your problem. If you to look at your neighbor with lust or anger, you would have committed adultery or murder. So why TV? If you had mastered your holiness already, the throwing of TV in the trash will be your second nature. The fact remains, that you are still sinning in more ways than one. If the viewing of TV convicts you, then do not watch TV. However, Do not impose on other the conviction that the holy spirit is imposing on you. They will have their turn. For now, press the POWER OFF button...

Ay, Caramba!

The things mentioned in those verses happen everywhere where people are. You can't escape it, and in fact, shouldn't. A Christian can't be salt in the world if he hides his head in the sand.

Jesus said: 15My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

We need to take part, know what's happening, and how will we do it if we become so judgmental that we don't even want to watch TV or surf the net?

Yes if the TV's on and you enjoy it...my remote gets a healthy workout. My wife and I enjoy the old classic movies...most today are just too weird or lack any real substance or decency...."Passion of the Christ" is probably one of Gibson's worst movies...it was like a Catholic informercial...not a scripturally accurate account. To me things like the passion are more dangerous than the obviously wrong violence and sex in movies...so I skip all that junk.

wow...and you know what christians do that in every day life.they boast they are proud and they invent ways of harming people ( torture back in the old days) (inventors of evil things) and I have never seen more unmannered people than christian kids when it is someone of another faith., and some christians are unmerciful to others in their judgemnts.
We every day allow "evil" to happen by those standards everyone is going to hell. Everyone at one point or another have told white lies . like telling your friend that she looks good when you think that she doesn't. Or wait one thing that seems to be common in school children..to tease and even harm people of another faith (prime example had a friend who was arabic and fallowed an arab faith she had rocks thrown at her) All people who judge others are hypocrites all people cause the things listed above at one point or another to diffrent degree's. Watching TV does not change the worlds view or attitude and actions.

I get what you are saying. And I would agree with you. With cable and satellite television available we can look at the listings and agree to watch certain things. If we want all those bad things to watch, we will agree to watch them when we change the channel.

I would surmise that the reason why those things are on television is because people watch them.

You don't really have to turn on the t.v. or watch a movie to see those things. They're in the world, all around you. You can't leave the world. God says that although we are in this world, we are not of this world.
However, there are definitely things we should not participate in or watch...including on t.v. & movies.

Of course it could apply to some television programs and the internet (including this site), the radio. music, books...whatever. It is what your mind does with these things that make it bad for you.

when television first came out many Christians referred to it as devil vision.

now they are watching it, just like everyone else.

it is much worse now that it was then, but we can still chose what we watch, and enjoy the peace and quiet when we turn it off.

it depends on what ur watching...see you must understand that God will not give such knowledge if it's gonna lead to nothing but destruction....how many ppl do you think have got to know about Jesus thriugh the TV....so don't condemn the invention but the ppl who are using it for wrong will be punnished cos all these verses refer to them...so don't worry....

Like i always say.... "If God doesn't understand, He can't be God!!!!!!"
