Bring them home? Move them to somewhere where they are actually doing something beneficial for America? Give them more armor? Increase their numbers? What?

Thanks so far for all the awesome answers :) After a healthy dose of jackholes on yahooanswers, the media, and my natural peace loving hippie mindset (which I understand isn't always congruent with the real world these days) my faith has been restored :)

Write your Congresspeople to appropriate the money needed for them to do their job. The House is at present an examplar of irresponsibility.

The best way to support the troops is by voting and making sure you vote for leaders that have the country and our armed forces benefits and rights their best interest at heart, i.e. taking care of them and taking care of their families while they are deployed. We have soldiers and/or veterans that cant find jobs bec. they are discriminated against. Make sure to never forget what sacrifices they make to ensure your freedoms- they may not ask for this- but thank them when you see them. It will make them feel good. Vote for good leaders, do your research and fight against ignorance and injustice against the Armed Forces. The very freedoms these ignorant people happily enjoy are the freedoms our troops are fighting for, whether overseas or domestically. Vote for leaders that have a good platform regarding Veterans rights and things of that nature. Encourage employees/corporations to hire people even though they are in the National Guard and may deploy anytime or hire people that have served. Sadly, we are discriminated against as I have experienced it first hand. Supporting is more than just lip service. Do something out there to make a difference- volunteer, tutor, mentor, teach today's kids to be better citizens and leaders of tomorrow, give your time - be environmentally conscious, whether in the car you drive or the things you do day to day, thank your leaders or write them when you see some foul play, speak up, vote, voice your opinion..all these add up in the long run and in the big picture. Don't be afraid to speak up and say you support the troops, send letters, care packages, donate, show your patriotism..... so many little things that make a huge difference!

One of the things I consistently hear from deployed troops is that they don't want to be "forgotten" and that they want to be reminded of what life is like back in the States. They also tell me that there is nothing like getting a package at mail call. You can be the person who gives them that touch of home and gives them encouragement to handle the stresses they are under.

Sign up to be a Books for Soldiers volunteer. Deployed U.S. troops can request a book, DVD, or other small item via the web. Volunteers from across the U.S. check the web-based request forum, and if they have the item, they send it directly to the troop. Postage to APO/FPO addresses is the same as regular domestic postage, and books can be send Media Mail rate, so it's inexpensive to do and more tangible than slapping a magnet on the old SUV....

The best way would be not to ignore the fact that there are young men and women who are dying and coming back hurt. Its sad when anna nicole gets recognized more than the young men and women that agreed to serve our country. As citizen you can support troops by saying thank you to a soldier or writing elected officials to make sure that troops are getting the protective equipment that can save their lives. This means asking for a new weapons that don't jam when troops are in life or death situations.

I'am the mother of Two American Soldier's.You see me every day going about life as usual -or so it appears.I rub shoulders with you at work. I shop at Wal-Mart and the grocery store.I fill my car at the courner gas station. You might see me anywhere.Don't be decieved:My life has not been "normal" for months.I am the Mother of Two American Soldier's.Although I continue the routines of life,I do so with a burdened heart and distracted mind. There are some tell-tale signs of who I am.I'm the one with the frayed yellow ribbon pinned on my clothing. It was fresh and new when my son's first deployed months ago.Even though the war is supposedly over,my son's are in a place where bullets and grenads are still killing are soldiers.I am determined to wear my ribbon until they come home.when you see me wearing that ribbon, please stop & whisper a prayer for him & all the others still there. Please pray for the son or daughter overseas & for the parents waiting for there child to come home! I am a mother of Two American Soldier's.....

The easiest way would be to keep people from badmouthing our profession. Lots of people don;t like to admit that we volunteered for the military, and therefore volunteered for war. In war, people die. We all knew that going in. It would also be nice if people would start mention the Kurds up north, who are doing swimmingly. They're building a university that they're naming after America, so thank us for liberating them, but you never see that on the news because it doesn't sell the station's agenda.

WELL BACK IN WW1 &2 PEOPLE BUILT SHIPS AND PLANES AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT WAS NEEDED, TODAY SOMEONE BUYS A MAGNET TO STICK ON THEIR VEHICLE.
I AM HERE FOR 2ND TIME AND I REENLISTED AND I AM SURE I WILL BE HERE A FEW MORE TIMES, WE ARE STILL IN GERMANY,KOREA,JAPAN ETC. ETC. WE WILL ALSO BE HERE FOR MANY YEARS.
GERMANY AND KOREA ETC. TOOK SEVERAL YEARS TO END THE VIOLENCE,IT DIDNT JUST END THE DAY SOMEONE SIGNED AN AGREEMENT.
I SAY DONT BRING US HOME, WE VOLUNTEERED FOR THIS. IF SOMEONE JOINED JUST TO GET MONEY FOR COLLEGE OR ANY OTHER BULL***T REASON THEN THAT IS THEIR FAULT.

Put back the benefits they once had. Take better care of their families while they are gone. Stop asking them to fight wars we didn't think through in the first place. These people are willing to lay down and die for us... the least we can do is not squander them on a lark or a hunch. Pull them back, feed and train them well. When we find ourselves at a total impass with another country which is going to invade our country... then and only then do we ask, "Is it time?" If it is bad enough that we no longer care about the morality or imorality of war... we then kick the door open and say two words, "Sick 'em!" Wars aren't to be fought in the halls of congress. When we put our dogs of war in a fight, we must turn loose of the reigns and be willing to live with the consequences later. To do less is to put our hounds at risk.

Just support what they are doing, and not try to think that what they are doing isnt benificial to america... if they werent over there fighting then sooner than later that **** will be in our backyard.

Go to the Air Ports on Fridays and wear red, and welcome home the soilders that are coming home, and tell them that you are proud of them and thank them.

Pray.

You would be surprised how much that helps above anything else anyone can do. Take partisanship out of it.

BTW, if I put on one more piece of body armor, I won't be able to move..... ;-)
