You have got a good doctor... He is giving you excellent advices… do consult the psychiatrist and follow the advices given by both the doctors… do not discontinue the medicines without instructions of your doctor and psychiatrist… these types of medicines should not be discontinued abruptly… doctor will tell you to reduce the doses and stop the medication successively… eventually you would not get addicted to them…

You may do away with your day time sleep for a better and deep sleep at night… do regular exercise… mix-up with your family members and friends… avoid living alone…

Nightmares are common symptoms of your anxiety… in fact the dreams are the reproduction of your thinking process you continue to have, as the condition improves your thinking process and the nightmares will go…

get well soon…

A psychiatirst would probably be best as many primary care physicians and internal medicine doctors write scripts for psychotropic meds, antidepressants and what not with little background in the field and often don't have patients on a theraputic dose. It would be advisable to get a psychiatrist opinion about your case first of all be cause that's his/her specialty and second because you should always get a second opinion. Usually meds should be continued and it's a good chance that is why you are doing better. Therapy is a big part too and if things have resolved an updated evaluation would be beneficial.

No, you do not necessarily have to go to a Psychiatrist. Many doctors (GP) are able to treat symptoms of anxiety--which your doctor is effectively doing with the Beta Blocker and the Klonipin. While these medications lessen the symptoms of the anxiety and stress; they certainly do not take away the original causes. This is why your MD suggested Psychotherapy. This could be a psychologist, social worker or anyone who is properly credentialed into providing this service. Some people, for example, who have a Med (Masters in Education) may also be qualified to counsel.
The object of psychotherapy is to talk out what is going on in your day to day life. Some therapists may delve into your past to try to better understand your sources of anxiety. Your therapist will work with you giving you insight into your problems and mechanisms to change your thinking patterns. IF Psychotherapy can effect your mood and take some of the pressure off, you may be able to wean off of the medications. Usually these types of medications are not used for the rest of your life anyway. Be patient. I've suffered anxiety and panic attacks the majority of my life. I've had perhaps three therapists--two socail workers and a psychologist. They have helped me gain insight into the "whys" of the way I react to stress. They have also taught me techniques to use to lessen the physical feelings---rapid heart beat, nervous stomache.
Another avenue to look into are: Yoga, meditation, guided imagery. Also treat yourself to a massage once in a while---even if it is just your back, neck and shoulders (where most people carry their stress).
Breathing exercises are absolutely the best for lessening stress. If you feel that you can gain control over your anxiety with other techniques, then you can think of decreasing the use of medications (with the knowledge of your MD). For now, I would say remain on them until you are able to get a complete grip.
By the way, phobias CAN be treated but it will take a lot of work and it certainly will not happen over night. Be patient.
Good Luck

If everything is beautifully resolved why are you taking all these meds? My best friend and my brother were both given psych meds...we had to have an "intervention" with both because their personalities really changed for the worse. If you don't have serious mental problems I think you are on way too many meds. But really you should not be given these by a regular m.d. anyway.

The best way to deal with it is by faceing it and dealing it with power within.
I don't believe in medication they just make things worst. There's nothing wrong with counceling it will help you. Exercise is good and it helps anxiety,
eating right, good sleep is best. medication might be causing nightmares but don't let them get to you. If you feel you should take day naps take them. Take nice good breaths when phobias come and think positive. The more you face them the more you learn how to deal with them. Your not alone allot of people suffer this and some don't know what they have.Praying helps allot a good relationship with our God is a way to recovery that's a guarantee you just got to have faith and believe.Allot of vit.b-12 and b-12 inje. your doct. can give them to you every two weeks you'll feel better and they nourish the nervous system and help you focus get them as much as you can it really help's. I would get them and the moment i felt like a champ i stoped but i regret stoping because i didn't have the enough strength to fight it off but now i face them and i get in control of them. I try to get enough rest and eat good (healthy). The best way to get rid of them is by attacking them back (how) going through the moment experiencing every feeling of it and turn it around with a clear positive point of view along with deep breathing holding breath a bit then release slowly do this 10 times. then you'll feel calm better to focus better to think and you'll see the phobias powerless anxiety with no strength, panics under control then you will see your self with power over this and the more you excercise this the better you'll become and feel better about you'self. It will be a challenge it may hurt to face it but you'll be an over comer. Healing is a process and and the more you forgive eveything in the past the past that might be linked to your problem the faster the recovery.Think do an inner self inventory and forgive any body that hurt you and forgive any situation that caused phobias this will help allot and heal your past and you will recover from it.
