Yeah, I always worry if there are small peices of glass in my food. My mother found broken glass in her mashed potatos at a resturaunt once and I have never been the same... I always wonder what would happen if you ate a piece, would it continue to cut into your organs for life, would it just kill you or would your body calcify it? I don't know but yuk. ;)

Sure, it's an unusual fear to have. But it sounds relatively harmless as long as you spend only spend a few seconds at it before you use a cup or bowl.
Did you have an incident where you thought you may have swallowed something that wasn't good for you?
An alternative is that you're actions relate to some other anxiety you have in some other part of your life.
Or another possibility is that there's a mild medical component. I just heard today of a woman who craved certain smells, like gasoline and markers -- it turned out that she was anemic and when they took care of that her anemia went away.
Don't get too concerned about it -- you can tie yourself in knots with worry but there's no payoff in it. If it might be medical see a doctor.
If it's about other anxieties in your life, see a psychologist or counselor.
If it's just passing thought, indulge yourself and just wash your cups before you use them for a while. If you don't dwell on the thought to much you may find that this phase passes and one day you realize it's not really bothering you at all anymore.

You have a phobia of plastic, possibly also dust. If you feel like it's causing a problem inyour life, then there is a therapy that you can pursue to help you get over it. If it's really npt that much of a problem for you, though, then it's not really anything to worry about. My concern is that plastic and dust are so common that you go aroud nervous all of the time. If you do, then you should probably get that therapy.

Maybe just a little unusual.... Just sort of sounds like a little OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) but as long as it doesn't stop you from eating and you can carry on normally with the rest of your life, other than checking bowls and cups, then I think you're okay... Everyone has their own fears to deal with... yours is a little different but it doesn't mean anything is "wrong" with you... All the best!

Did you choke on something plastic when you were young? I choked about 45 years ago on hard candy. Dad flipped me over and did a back blow as I was passing out. So, to this day, I am very cautious with hard candy.

It's not unusual if you are always putting plastic and metal in your mouth. But it IS a good thing to be CAREFUL about what goes into your mouth.

i don't mean to scare you further by saying this, but i think you have a much greater chance of choking on food or drink than plastic or metal residue.
just make sure to chew well and not eat too fast and i'm pretty sure you'll be ok :)
