She wouldnt put the baby in her will if she wasnt named after her? Thats just mean. Not to mention ususual. Is she saying she wont love that baby if she doesnt have her name? Why does it even matter what the babys name is? You should call your grandma and talk to her about this directly. And tell her the next time she wants to tell you something call you herself instead of using your mom as a middleman. I would name the baby whatever you want. If your grandma has a problem with that, tell her to take her money and shove it. No dont do that, then your child would have no chance at being in the will. Just tell her that the greatest way she can show love for the baby is to make sure she has some money to get to college with. Your child will definitely appreciate your grandmother if she can go to college on her money.

No, unless it was a name you really wanted in the first place and you really are close to your grandmother. If she is someone special in your life, then go for it, irrelevant of the will. If she is not, then I would consider it blackmail, a case of do this and I will do that. Go to her and tell her what your mother had said, then let her know that you haven't decided yet on a name. Then ask her to help you decide on names as well. Maybe she would find something you both like in a name.

Sounds like a domineering grandmother to me. What if its a boy, then you would have to name it a girls name.
Sure, go ahead, most kids end up being called a nickname anyhow. If its a name in your top 5, that will make it simple to choose. Hey, if its going to make the baby rich, after granny's gone you could go to court and rename it.
No amount of money could make me name my child Maude, so I hope that isn't it!

I wouldn't pick the name for that reason. If it's actually the one you like then fine, but I would never want to tell my child they got their name because their grandmother said she'd put them in her will. Not to mention if she's so rich why doesn't she make a trust fund for your baby. Seems like she's just trying to brive you. Your an adult; brives no longer work. Whatever you do remember it's your child and you have to live with her name and explain how she got it when she's older. Best of Luck with your decision.

would using your grandmothers name as your babys middle name count? That s what I would do.
Just how much money are you talking? If over the 100k mark I would probably use her name and you said it was in your top 5 right.

What's wrong with your g-mother? She'll only put her great granddaughter in her will, if she has her name? That's messed up. I wouldn't use her name just bcs of the offer. Tell her to shove it.

yes, everyone has their odd traits. and older ppl. are sometimes childish. it obviously has meaning to your grandmother and could help your childs future so why not? taking the moral high road here might not be what's best in a logical sense. a name can always be changed later =) needing a reserve in the future can be more beneficial than a name a parent prefers.

if i was rich, only if i liked the name.

since im not, heck yeah. if i dont like the name i will just put that on the birth cert. and develop a family nickname that i do like.
that money would be used towards my daughters schooling. its kinda selfish to let my emotions prevent my daughter from benefiting in something useful.

I would talk to her directly and think about getting something in writing..it would really suck to name your child after her and then she doesn't leave you in the will..and your child has this name of this woman who really disapointed you?
